Cutting off friendship

in HiveGhana3 months ago

Just like we say that everything that goes up must come down and nothing lasts forever, I apply that idea to my friendships. Whenever I get blocked by a friend, I don’t feel it because I knew my time in that friendship was up, and I expect my friends to do the same to me too because I cut off friendships a lot. They say that 20 friends cannot stay together for 20 years, and that’s very true.

In the few years I have lived on this earth, I have had many situations where I had to end certain friendships. Most of these were on a more mutual example platform where we both knew that the bond of friendship was no longer there and we needed to let go. This is why anytime I get into a friendship, I try to catch all the moments in the early stage because I don’t know what will happen next or the expiry time of such a friendship.

Exactly around this time last year, I had to let go of a friend when I noticed the vibes were no longer there, and I needed to be out in order not to be left hanging, thinking I still had the friendship going.

It all started when this friend stopped attending to my calls. I would call to ask for something (not money, just ideas on how to get along with some tasks), and he would snub me. Most times, he didn’t bother to return my calls. When he did pick up, he would start pleading about why he didn’t pick up earlier, saying he was busy. I wonder the kind of busyness.

Well, I know that people are busy, but hey, there is a way we need to balance and maintain relationships. Like I said, it’s not like I was calling to beg for money. No, although I was calling to seek help, his attitude towards my calls and messages told me that he was no longer interested in maintaining the friendship, and I needed to let go. That was it—I decided to stay away. I decided to leave before he sent me a breakup SMS like in a romantic relationship. Lol

After about four months without reaching out to each other, he messaged me to explain how busy he had been and how things were tight for him. I didn't judge him; I didn't criticize him. I just accepted what he said, and from that day, I never messaged him again because it was obvious that the friendship was long gone, and no amount of amendment was going to blend the bond again. I didn't call him, and neither did he. To me, we are still cool; we view each other's WhatsApp statuses, which is more like knowing that he’s still alive and I’m still alive, but I am never going to call him again.

Thanks!

I wonder what sort of work he was doing to have been busy for so long without returning your calls. Well, some people are like that
I know as you’re no more friends, that’s when he’ll know your worth
