Walk through Gardel Park and lunch at La Mulera

Gardel Park and La Mulera 97 St, Bogota

Last weekend, my husband and I finally went to eat at a restaurant that had been recommended to him by one of his colleagues at work on several occasions, but that we had not had the opportunity to go to until last Saturday.

The place is a few blocks from where we are staying. And the route suggested by Google Maps was through a small urban park that to our surprise turned out to be a nice place to walk around and take a break.

GardelPark1.jpg

The park has some green areas and a central square with benches to sit and hang out.

GardelPark2.jpg

The park is called Gardel Park because there is a monument to Carlos Gardel there. Yesterday, in my #ttt post for this week I talked about this monument and who was this great tango artist.

GardelPark3.jpg

One thing I really like about Bogotá are these green spaces that sometimes surprise you in the middle of the urban chaos and make the city more livable.

This park looked very well kept and there were lots of these kind of flowers.

GardelPark5_Acanto.jpg

Looking for their name in Google Lens I found out that they are called Acanthus and are also known as bear's breeches, and I wonder why?

After expending sometime in the park while we talked on the phone with our son who called us while we were there, we continued on our way to the Restaurant La Mulera.

LaMulera.jpg

The restaurant is on the corner of Carrera 9a and Calle 97a. The place specializes in Colombian food.

We sat at one of the tables that were on the terrace and from which we could see outside.

Chicharron_LaMulera.jpg

To start we ordered a couple of beers and a portion of chicharrón. The chicharrón was crispy and delicious. They served it with some corn arepitas.

Ajiaco_LaMulera1.jpg

Both my husband and I were going with the idea of eating ajiaco. I had not eaten one since I arrived in Colombia and it is one of the typical dishes of Bogotá.

Ajiaco_LaMulera3.jpg

The Ajiaco Santafereño as it is usually called in Bogotá is a soup made with potatoes, shredded chicken, corn, cream and capers and a typical Colombian herb called guascas and is usually served with rice and avocado.

It was delicious! Perfect to kill the craving I had for ajiaco since I arrived to Bogotá.
So it was worth the walk. We discovered a very nice park and to the restaurant La Mulera, we will surely come back because we loved the food.

The ride was rewarded with that ajiaco. It is also prepared in Cuba, although with some variations as to what it contains, but always corn and chicken.

And in Cuba, you also call it ajiaco?

What a perfect combination of food and fresh air Super Eli💙
The soup looks yummy and I would never have thought gets paired with avocado and rice!

It was a perfect combo indeed, Super Ed!
Hehe!! Here they love to pair food with white rice and avocado. The hard thing is to find a traditional dish that doesn't go with them 😅

Wow lovely park to explore. It's always good to find open spaces to walk around and relax in the city. Looks like a fantastic restaurant to explore too. The dish looks delicious. Happy Halloween!
