Hello, Hivers and music lovers!
Since my son went to college abroad, he has acquired a taste for Latin music. Here, he was not much of a dancer, but now with his friends there, they usually go to a place where they dance salsa on Monday nights.
We often talk about the songs and those singers who brought salsa to fame.
We talk about the salsa history. And even though it is said that the origins of the rhythm are Cuban, the movement that gave salsa as we know it nowadays worldwide fame arose in post-war New York.
One of the greats that history recognizes as one of the most influential salsa artists of the 60s and 70s was the Puerto Rican Héctor Lavoe. His songs are poetry, and his rhythms make it hard not to feel like dancing. For years wit sang in a duo with the also famous singer Willie Colón, who deserves a #ttt sometime. So for this week, my entry in the Three Tune Tuesday initiative, week 113, are some of the salsa gems of all time by Héctor Lavoe.
But before I get into the tunes, let me give you a little background for those of you who aren't familiar with #threetunetuesday. In the words of @ablaze, who started the initiative.
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #ttt or #threetunetuesday tags that would be great. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.
You can find out more at ablaze's post for this last Tuesday with his recommendations for~~ this~~ last week the #112.
And without further ado, let's go with the tunes.
Tune 1 - Héctor Lavoe - Juanito Alimaña
The first tune is a song from the early 1980s. This song has become one of my son's favorites of Lavoe.
The song talks about a crook named Juanito Alimaña, who thanks to his wiles managed not to get caught in his misdeeds.
Tune 2 - Héctor Lavoe - El Cantante
The second tune is simple what Hector Lavoe is, El Cantante (The Singer). One of the greatest salsa singers of all time.
The lyrics of the song are by another salsa great, Ruben Blades.
Tune 3 - Héctor Lavoe - El Día De Mi Suerte
The last tune that I leave you, I like it very much. It is a song from the time when Lavoe played a duet with Willie Colon. El Día De Mi Suerte.
Are you already dancing after listening to the songs? Which tune you liked the most?
Thank you very much for reading!
Enjoy the music, and enjoy life!
