It seems that this year will be gone in the blink of an eye and at the same time, it has been an eventful few months. The most recent one that gave me immense joy was that we were able to spend our son's birthday with him. But let me tell you from the beginning because between one thing and another, I have been a bit disconnected lately on Hive and I can't believe this is only my second post of April. But let's cut to the chase.
Three months ago my husband received some very good news, he was invited to a film festival in Chicago to present one of his most recent films with his ticket and lodging covered. We found out at the end of January when I had not yet returned from Bogota on the trip I made to renew my visa. We jumped for joy because his trip would also coincide with our son's birthday, which is in mid-April.
The day we found out, I hesitated at first whether I should go or not, not that I had money to spare for a trip at this time. And my son wanted me to go to see him if possible at the end of the summer when he would have no classes and therefore more time to spend with me. But the next morning, while I was having a coffee, I said to myself: are you crazy? There is only one life and you more than anyone else know that things can change from one moment to the next. The only thing we have for sure is today, right? So take the chance as it comes.
So I immediately called my husband and told him I would go. And his response was, "Of course you will go!"
And so it was. In mid-April, we traveled to Chicago. After a journey of more than 24 hours between flights and stopovers, on April 16th, the day before Rodrigo's birthday, we arrived in Chicago.
The best part is that Rodrigo thought only his dad was going. I don't know how we managed to keep the secret for weeks without him suspecting it. And I don't even know how he didn't notice because we use to be always in contact and on the day of the trip, he couldn't communicate with me a couple of times. But his face at the airport of disbelief and surprise was a gift of life. When he saw me arrive with his dad, he couldn't believe that I was there.
That day we arrived late at night and exhausted. So we saw little of the city but we stayed at the hotel talking for a while until Rodrigo had to go back to the university campus.
The next morning we explored the city a bit by the streets near the hotel and I will tell you more about how beautiful Chicago is and my impressions about the places we visited.
That day, April 17, was Rodrigo's birthday. I went to see him on campus and the visit to the University deserves a separate post.
In the afternoon we went to celebrate the birthday. A specially celebrated 20s without a doubt.
We had dinner at a Kurdish restaurant. I had never been to a Kurdish restaurant before but the food in general is very similar to Turkish food. In the excitement of the moment, I forgot to photograph most of the food. And I only have this one of the starters we tried. The whole dinner was delicious.
We met my boy's girlfriend. A lovely girl. It was great to meet her and share that time together.
We had some happy days. Intense, in which we did a lot of things. We had family time, sightseeing, movies. I am very grateful to life for giving me this opportunity and to Hive because thanks to some HP that I used I was able to buy my plane ticket to spend those unforgettable days of which I hope to tell you more in the next days.
