Hello #shadowhunters and #ecency. This is my entry for the #311 shadow hunters SMASh contest.
This is the shadow of a stick construction in my neighborhood used for drying clothes. In the local community, we are not using sophisticated laundry systems to do our laundry. This clothes drying mechanism was constructed by cutting sticks from the bush. The sticks were then set up as seen with nails. There are those who serve as pillars to provide the shape and others are used as cross bars where the clothes are hung. The structure is usually made in a site which is fully exposed to the sun.
Sometimes we use a line tied to the wall or with sticks in the sun to dry the clothes we wash. These lines are usually made with thick strong ropes which won't cut easily when heavy wet clothes are hung on them. The hours of 9am to 3pm are usually optimal in drying out wet clothes. Sometimes, the rainy season poses a challenge on achieving this as it could take days to get clothes dried due to bad weather conditions.
These local techniques of doing laundry is helpful to local dwellers who might not have enough funds to acquire a washing machine. Sometimes, lack of power supply causes people to resort to using these local methods.
