Hi,
Last Sunday was a day full of fun, food and lots of conversations with the group of friends, all organised by Jose Antonio and Rocio after getting married a month ago and wanting to get together again to spend a special Sunday.
Jose Antonio Karting Grand Prix
For Jose Antonio's stag party, we had organised a karting competition at the Tapia de Casariego kart track with racing karts.
Because it had been Jose Antonio's first experience in karts, his position had not been good at all. I think he had only beaten me, as I am the most clumsy driver of all.
That's why Jose Antonio, eager for revenge, organised a Mini Grand Prix of Karts with the members of the previous occasion, plus his nephew, who is a specialist in the world of karting.
Unlike the previous occasion, which was a stag party, we had a special audience of our girlfriends and wives and also of those who have children, there were also the sons and daughters.
Like little Daniela, who already has the competitive genes of the four wheels like her father Javier.
As on the previous occasion, the karting day was divided into a qualifying session of 10 minutes in which each of us tried to make a gap in order to complete a clean lap to get the best possible time for the race.
The best time was set by Martin, Jose Antonio's nephew and as usual I set the worst time. But unlike other occasions, I had my friends only a couple of seconds a lap behind me. On the other occasion they were almost 5 seconds per lap behind me.
After the classification, they gave us a few minutes of rest where we talked on the track how we had gone. Feelings. And some recrimination for touches between karts in some dangerous corner. But all in a very relaxed way.
After about 5 minutes of rest, we were called to form the starting grid and we did the mini grand prix which consists of 10 laps of the circuit.
As expected, Martin won the grand prix, with Navalin second and Javier third.
As usual I was in last position, but unlike last time I was not lapped and I was very close to the penultimate classified, being almost necessary the photo-finish to elucidate the classification.
After the grand prix we took family photos before going for lunch at a restaurant near Porcia beach.
El Fornello Restaurant
As it was the last weekend in August and the area where I live is becoming more and more touristy, finding a place for 20 people to eat on a Sunday was an odyssey.
Jose Antonio told us that he had called 5 restaurants and in the end they only accepted us in one restaurant which we had not really wanted to go to because of previous experiences.
On this occasion, due to the good weather, the owner of the restaurant placed us on an outdoor terrace which we liked very much because it was in the open air. But with an awning that allowed us to avoid the sun.
The food consisted of a variety of cold meats, squid, croquettes and grilled meats.
The grill tasted good, although the pork ribs were a bit bland. The rest was acceptable, with the black pudding standing out for its good flavour.
The set menu also included a drink, dessert and coffee. But we paid 45 euros per person which was a real barbarity for the amount of food and for the type of food and many were very reluctant to return to this place for a group meal.
Tapia de Casariego Fair
We finished lunch at about 17:00 and as the day was sunny, those of us with fewer family responsibilities went to the town of Tapia de Casariego as there was a fair of farm and seafood products being held there.
We wandered around some of the craft stands, just to browse but without any serious intention of buying anything.
After a while in the fair, we decided to go to the port, where there are several places with outdoor terraces to have a drink.
The Gin and Tonic moment arrived, although I preferred to go to the interior terrace of a place from where you could see the port of Tapia de Casariego.
After this drink and some very good moments of conversation of the adults and games of the children, we decided to dissolve the meeting and to go each one to his house.
Porcia's sunset
I had left the car at the restaurant where we had eaten, so they took me there to pick it up.
It was almost 9 pm and because it is an area I know well, I went to a viewpoint to contemplate the horizon at sunset and give thanks for the wonderful Sunday I had with my friends.
Best regards.
