Shift in Silver Demand? - HSBI Initiative

in Silver Gold Stackers5 days ago (edited)

I had half the day off today, and my doctor canceled their appointment with me due to an emergency, but there was no way I was giving the time back. I went out to lunch instead and then stopped by the local coin shop to see how things have changed since it's been quite some time since I visited.

The last time I was there, they couldn't keep silver or gold on the shelf. There was a perpetual order backlog, and they were paying $1.50 over spot on silver to anyone who wanted to sell it.

Fast forward to today, and the case is full. I saw multiple 100oz bars in the case, multiple boxes of assorted 1oz rounds, coins, etc. There were a dozen or so 1/10oz gold coins in flips, and to the right were multiple boxes of 90% silver quarters, dimes, and half dollars. Talk about a selection!

If I had to guess, inflation was taking its toll, and people have been selling to make ends meet. I don't blame them one bit. Out of curiosity, I asked them what they were paying for silver. They told me they were paying $0.50 under spot! What a change!

(Created with Bing)

They clearly weren't desperate to get their hands on silver, as supply seemed to be outpacing demand. I looked around and didn't see anything that I had to have, so I spent a few minutes browsing while walking around a couple of people selling, and then I left.

I'm curious what everyone else is seeing locally. Are you still seeing a lot of demand or more people selling?

Anyone who answers this question in the comments will be entered into a drawing to win 10 HSBI after this post pays out.

I always wanted to stack silver and gold, since these currency is called a money of God. It will not affected by inflation and here to stay in an event of great reset.

There's no better time to start than right now, especially since we don't know what the price will look like in the future.

No silver physical shops in my locality but there is a definite change in supply online while I'm looking for some silver coins to post or add to my wishlist (a rather big wishlist by the way😂)
More coins in more sites are available than last year when everything was almost sold out.

It sounds like even online there are a lot more sellers than buyers.

In fact, I am increasingly faced with the problem of finding a good store. Unfortunately, there are only very dubious gold buying stores in my area. But maybe I need to open up a bit more. If in doubt, I need to have a good feeling about it. Or do you see it differently?

That's why it's difficult for me to answer your question, I can't look at buyers and sellers like that.

It can be hard with those gold-buying stores. If you're not finding any good deals there, your best option is to find an online dealer.

Yes, that's true. I'm currently finding it very difficult online. I want to start small and of course the shipping costs are quite high.
If I buy more, it will be a different story, but I'm not there yet.

Thanks in any case for your advice!

Many people are selling their Silver and Gold to make ends meet... If you know anything about me, you'd know that I'd sell my Gold first, my Silver second and my Common U.S. Coinage last...

That's what I suspected, but wanted to see what others are experiencing since sometimes these things can be limited to geographical areas and may not be nationwide.

Hopefully things improve so people don't have to keep selling.

I figure the Banksters are doing everything in their power, go force people holding Silver and Gold to Sell... Yes, they want it for what they see heading our way... They will need Silver and Gold, in order to obtain our Paper Coinage and our U.S. Crypto Coinage...

One coin show participant said, "Retirement, this is my retirement." he spread out his arms to his coins spread over three tables at the collectables show. I knew the public Canada Pension paid a max of $750CAD/month with OAS supplement not adequate.

My Local Coin store owner says a lot of people are selling their jewelry, coin collections and silverware to make ends meet, I felt sad for a woman who had to sell her personal jewelry piece by piece, she had been regularly dropping in. Those that were buying were well dressed seem well off for now.
I'm seeing gold premiums drop a bit. Likely tough to sell since most people cannot afford the price for ONE troy oz.

I've built up a sizeable Emergency fund, but earning 2.75% in a GIC sucks, and half that interest income is taxable, so I'm thinking off putting half of it into gold bullion and hoping it will be sufficient cash without having to sell the gold.

It's sad things have come to this. Hopefully, things improve so people don't have to keep selling. Selling bullion is one thing, but it's harder when it's more sentimental things like jewelry.

I'm hearing some say they expect gold spot price to continue to rise, so converting some funds to gold may not be a bad play.

We don’t have any local silver shops as such but I gave noticed a lot more silver coins in local auctions, not sure if it’s an indication of more sellers or me taking more notice as I am looking to pick up some silver myself

That's nice you at least have auctions available. You're probably better off looking at online dealers for bullion. A lot of people get caught up in the auction process and bid far over what the items are worth.

That's a big change then!
I guess people swapped so much silver that they only buy stuff they really want now, or stuff that they know will sell quick.

I only see silver on the markets when we go there because these tiny shops I always find them when it's closed due to siesta, or some are only open in the mornings ..

There's one close to our accountant so maybe next time I will plan our appointment during a time that this shop is open to at least check it out as we're already in the same street ..

Quite curious what they'd offer for silver here..

!PIMP

Do the shops there normally only have a small amount of silver, or was there more in previous years and availability has gone down?

The shifts in the market are remarkable. It must have been a surprise to see the shelves so well-stocked, especially after having witnessed the exact opposite before. Your observation about inflation influencing people's decisions to sell their precious metals makes a lot of sense. It’s tough when people need to liquidate assets to cover their expenses.
It’s interesting how the market dynamics have shifted to where dealers are paying under spot for silver now. A stark contrast from when they were willing to pay a premium. It sounds like the store had a wide variety of items, but it’s understandable that nothing caught your eye given the circumstances.

Yeah, it's nice to see the variety, but sad to know it's because people are forced to sell to make ends meet.

Hopefully, things improve soon so people are only having to sell when they want to and not out of necessity.
