Crap for Christmas

My family asked me for a Christmas list since it's that time of year. As I sat in my chair looking through the Amazon app for ideas, I was amazed at how much stuff was on there. Some of it looked interesting, but a lot of it just seemed unnecessary.

Some of it looked like crap. I must've seen at least 20 different power banks on sale. Generators were another common item, along with Dyson and Roomba knock-offs. I sighed and kept scrolling.

I came across some weird objects as well. Glad trash bags are considered a "Black Friday" item?

Really?

And stethoscopes?

Who's buying this stuff?

Am I the odd man out for struggling to find something I really want for Christmas? I'd rather go do something with family, watch Christmas movies, play games, etc.

I ended up settling for adding some replacement phone chargers, a rechargeable electric lighter, some roasted cinnamon pecans and some Dansk cookies to my list. I looked one more time and added a pair of replacement slippers to the list. Two hours, and that's all I could find.

Maybe it's just me, but as I get older I could care less about the crap. I'd rather focus more on the time I get to spend with friends and family.

The trash bags are just to get for yourself now, if they ARE actually a deal. Maybe they have overstock and need to get rid of some.

One year I got a real stethoscope in my stocking when I was growing up. We all had a great time with it. You didn't just have to use it for listening to hearts and lungs. Who knew?

It is true growing older changes your view a bit. I usually have some sort of hobby going on, so if I can't think of anything I need, I go that direction.

Once my brothers and sisters and I grew up and had families we would draw names and all leave a list at Mom's for whoever had our name. It was just suggestions and the person who was gifting didn't HAVE to buy anything on it, but if they couldn't think of anything, there was a list! One year I asked my older brother what he wanted for Christmas and he said "I don't have a list, besides, if I wanted something and you can afford it, I already bought it for myself! " Now.... I know that sounds arrogant or the such, but for real, he was a big jokester. We got such a laugh out of that, however, I am at that place myself. Those fun gifting years are pretty much long gone though.

As a nurse I'd find a Stethoscope would be handy in a first aid kit.
