Throwback to December 2018, when I was working in the financial district of Brussels—a place where glass towers loom, trains rush by, and the vibe screams “work hard, drink coffee harder.” My office was right by the station, making the commute easy and giving me plenty of time to channel my inner photographer.
This area was the polar opposite of Brussels’ historical center. Instead of cobblestones and medieval charm, it was all shiny skyscrapers and endless windows, lit up like a corporate advent calendar. Yet, it had its own winter magic.
One evening, the sky turned dramatic (as Brussels weather does), and the Basilica of Koekelberg peeked through the gloom like it was photobombing. Meanwhile, the glass towers reflected the setting sun so beautifully you’d forget they housed endless spreadsheets and questionable meeting snacks.
The trains, though, were the real MVPs. They blurred through the station, perfectly symbolizing my vibe at the time—constantly moving, slightly chaotic, and powered by caffeine.
And let’s not forget the sunrise. Those golden morning rays glinting off the buildings almost made the early starts worth it. Almost.
The financial district may not be postcard material, but if you squint (and maybe freeze your fingers off taking photos), it’s got a winter charm that’s hard to ignore. Even among the hustle, there’s beauty—though it often looks like it’s running late for a meeting.
