I am an agent of love, and I love to be a blessing to people around me. Besides, what's a charitable act without love? Being a philanthropist has actually been my vision since my teenage years. It is a great happiness and privilege for me to write about it.
If I'm being given one million dollars, my first project would be investing in housing projects for homeless people and orphanages. It always breaks my heart to see people sleeping at the roadsides, under the bridge, and sometimes in the drainage areas, exposing them to dangers such as robbery attack, rape, or even death. They are so vulnerable to harsh weather conditions, which could be detrimental to their health. I would buy many hectares of land and then build a lot of different housing structures that will be suitable for people to live in. I would also build a lot of orphanages and motherless baby homes providing essential needs, like kitchen items, footwear, clothing materials, sanitary towels for the females, and nappies for the babies.
Furthermore, I would be investing in food and community development services. Food banks would be created, and support would be made available for the organisation providing food for those who are in need. I would fund urban agricultural projects so that food would be multiplied and provide a source of income for farmers. Boreholes would be drilled in order to get clean water to use. I would also donate to the initiatives in charge of providing disaster relief.
Creation of job opportunities would be next on my list. I would build factories where people can work and earn a living. As much as people would have roofs over their heads, food is made available; people need to be empowered so they can have their basic needs be met; with that, they can be able to stand independently, giving more rooms to other homeless people to be catered for. Job creation would also reduce social vices in the society; good deeds would be more prominent, and there will be sanity in the society.
In addition to my projects, I would provide for health and wellness. As much as job opportunities, housing structures and food are essential, if the people are unhealthy, then changes we really desired cannot be effected. Therefore, I would contribute to diseases of public health concern, such as fighting HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and monkeypox, to mention a few. Rooms would be made for routine check-ups for the elderly men and women for early detection of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, to mention a few. I would support mental health initiatives providing effective counselling and services.I would support the government hospital for routine check-ups for the pregnant women, timely restocking of vaccines so that the children can get vaccinated when due, and effective treatment for children with C.N.S. degenerative diseases such as Down syndrome.
Finally, I would invest richly in the education system. I would fund a literacy program for children and adults, providing scholarships for underprivileged children up to the academic level they desire. I would also support organisations that provide skill acquisition training for teenagers and youths; they would be made to choose the aspect in which they are interested; also, entrepreneurial and business studies would be made available for people who want to venture into business.
In conclusion, charity is really essential in society. It helps one to develop empathy; it helps in addressing social issues by reducing immoral and dangerous acts in the society, and to cap it all, restoring hopes back into people's hearts.
