Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for friday the 5th day of January, 2024. The first game of the 2023-24 FA Cup third round between Crystal Palace vs Everton at Selhurst Park, ended in a draw, (0-0). It was rather expected as I had earlier predicated scrappy game between the duo last night.
Tonight, Brendford plays against Wolves, Fulham vs Rotherham and Tottenham will square off against Burnley, as part of matches in the FA Cup third round. Already Brendford is leading Wolves by (1-0) at half time. Larry veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1933, construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, a suspension bridge that formerly had the world's longest main span and has been celebrated for the magnificence of its setting.
From the USA, Larry goes to Portugal. He finds out that On this day in 2014, Eusébio, possibly the greatest Portuguese football (soccer) player of all time, died in Lisbon.
From Portugal, Larry goes to the field of astronomy and space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 2005, the dwarf planet Eris was identified in photos obtained two years earlier at Palomar Observatory in California.
From the field of astronomy and space, Larry goes to Kenya. He finds out that on this day in 1998, Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi was sworn in for his fifth consecutive term.
From Kenya, Larry goes to the field of physics and mathematics. He finds out that on this day in 1919, German Workers' Party founder Anton Drexler established the party in Munich, Germany, which later became the Nazi Party.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the world of physics. He finds out that on this day in 1938, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Kenyan novelist regarded as East Africa's leading author was born in Limuru, Kenya. His renowned Weep Not, Child (1964) was the first significant novel in English written by an East African.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
