I'm not usually oneo of those people who fills my feed with photos of everything I eat. But just occasionally I have something so amazing (and photogenic) that it's worth it.

In this case, we went up to London for the day on the weekend closest to my birthday. My wife decided to make it the best birthday ever, because normally I don't make much fuss about it and treat it as just another working day.

So we went to London to see a show. Before going in, we stopped at the L'Eto cafe in Wardour Street in the heart of Soho for lunch.

It was the cakes in the window that drew us in ! The food was delicious, although I think a lot of it was designed as much for appearance as taste.

I started with a lavender matcha latte, together with an avocado and halloumi bagel, which was surprisingly substantial ! Then for the all-important cake course I had a flat white coffee and a lavender macaroon. The only real issue I had was with the coffee, which arrived in an earthenware cup with no handle. Very trendy, but I had to wait for it to cool down a bit before I could safely pick it up and drink it !

I tried to take photos of the cakes in the window and the front of the cafe; I've included them but they aren't my best, there were just so many people swarming around and jostling each other. London is a seriously cosmopolitan city, and the cafe was a great place to "people watch" and have a chuckle at some of the unusual fashion choices of some of them.

All in all, it was expensive but worth the price. I'd definitely go back :)

All photos by me
