Life is all about give and take. The more time you spend on one thing, the less time you have to spend on something else. We make decisions and we stick with them. Nothing reminds me of that more than this week's X Blue Metrics Report.
You can see from below that impressions on my X posts went down this past week. In fact, they went down a whopping 65 percent. That wouldn't be so bad except that they went down last week too. These two weekly declines resulted in my impressions being only 909 this week. They haven't been that low in a long, long time.
Despite the huge drop in impressions, Engagement Rate saw a 65 percent increase, up to 5.5 percent. Now, I don't think I've ever seen Engagement Rate that high.
What happened?
I've been spending a lot more time lately manning my book table in grocery stores. I started out selling books just on Saturdays. Then I upped that to four days a week (Wednesday through Saturday). I kept it there for about a year. Recently, I decided to add Tuesday to the mix. Now, I'm spending 8 hours a day, 5 days a week manning a book table and selling books. And not doing too badly at it, I might say.
Well, if I'm selling books to grocery store customers, then I can't be online posting social media content. That's why my impressions are down. However, I can drop in once in a while throughout the day to post a comment and engage with others' posts. That's why Engagement Rate has gone so high.
Two more metrics increased this week, as well. Profile visits went up 50 percent, to 6. And Media Views went up 500 percent, to 18. Ain't that swell?
The metrics that declined over the last 7 days include
- Link clicks declined 100 percent, to 0
- New followers fell 46 percent, to 7
- Replies decreased 78 percent, to 2
- Likes plummeted 31 percent, to 22
I'm not ashamed of these numbers at all. As I said, we all make decisions and if we spend time doing one thing, we can't spend time doing something else. Now, the question is, can I take a little time to preschedule a few posts? I'll do my best.
Impressions and Engagements
This week's impressions started out looking good. One-third of my impressions for the week took place on Wednesday, July 3.
The same with engagements. They hit a high on July 3 with 16.
Here's what it looks like when we overlay impressions and engagements. Impressions are green and engagements are blue.
I picked up the majority of my new followers on Independence Day.
That's all I got to say about metrics this week. I don't know how impressions can get any lower, but I guess they can. As long as I keep engagement up, I should do just fine.
