I Got Addicted To The Indian Series.

in The Ink Well2 days ago

I resumed at school one morning and I met my friends talking about the movies they all watch on a particular Indian channel. As for me, I am very used to the normal Nigerian movies we usually watch.
The next day again, they talked about one particular series that they all have been watching and when they get to school the next day after watching the next episode, they ask themselves questions like, did you see what Asher did to Sarawsati? What’s the next thing you think may happen?.
I began to get more interested and wonder if a series could be that interesting that the only thing they all want to talk about in my class is about that particular series and not even Indian movie in general.
I started to feel left so I asked one of my friends, Ifeoluwa about the series.

Ifeoluwa, what’s it about this series you all have been chatting about? Is it that interesting?, I asked Ifeoluwa standing at the front of her chair and looking lost.

It’s very interesting and I even think interesting is an understatement. If you watch it, you will love it, she said to me and I could see that she can vouch for the movie just for me to know how interesting it was.

What’s the title then, I said to her and I quickly ran to my desk to pick up a pen and paper so I can write the title of the movie. If I didn’t write the title, it’s possible for me to forget it.

She wrote the title, Married again on that paper and told me the time they always show it. Good for me, I don’t do any other thing at home than wash my school uniform, do my homework and watch television. Our light is steady.

I got home that afternoon and did all I usually do very fast. I enjoyed that episode and went to school on the next day so that Ifeoluwa would explain the things that happened before I started watching the movie to me. She did so I was able to carry myself along with the series.

I started getting addicted to watching Married Again every evening and my parents don’t even know since they are always at work and they get back from home at night.
One day, while going home from school, I passed by my mum’s friend shop and she gave me money. She said my mum called her to give me money so I can prepare beans for all of us before she gets back from work.

I bought the beans as told and I separated the dirts from the actual beans and I boiled it. Mistakenly, I closed the kitchen door which I usually don’t do anytime I’m cooking. I did that because I was rushing to watch my favorite series so I sat at the living room watching the movie.
What I don’t understand is how I got away with the fairies and forgot that I was cooking beans.
I made sure that I sat down to finish the series which lasted one hour and when I finished, I now remembered that I was cooking beans.
I was so mad at myself and if it was burning, I may not know because I already locked the kitchen door so I may not perceive any smell or even see any smoke in the living room.

I rushed into the kitchen to see the beans burn to ashes. I was scared and wanted to faint because I knew my mum would beat the hell out of me.
I went to meet my friends and explained to them so they all contributed some money so I could buy another beans and make it for them.
The money was not up to what my mum’s friend gave me and I could not go to meet her too because I knew my mum would hear about it.
That was how I cooked the beans with another pot and this time, I stood with it because I was scared the same thing could happen.
I hid the burnt pot inside the kitchen cabinet so that I will wash it thoroughly after I get back from school on the next day but I already poured water inside to make the ashes softer.

Wemimo, this place is smelling like something got burnt, my mum said to me immediately she entered the house but I denied and when she came inside the kitchen, she saw the beans I cooked and she believed me that there was no food that got burnt.

When I got home from school the next day, I did all what I was supposed to do and washed the pot very well. I also thanked my friends for gathering some money to save me from my mum’s beating.

Since then, I’m always careful especially when I’m cooking.

Your friends were kind to have contributed funds for you to escape the scolding or punishment you could have received for burning the food on fire. Perhaps you were carried away with pleasure from the movie you watched
