What if the world is turning on its own? What if the disaster fails to stop? And when there comes an epidemic where everyone fails to have a taste of meals and yet they remain hungry as time passes by? What if all the food in the world are medications? Which food do you think can save the world from all of these dilemmas?
You can choose the mighty fried and jollof rice, you can go for the inevitable Moi Moi, you can also decide to choke the great pounded yam, or opt for the popular celebrity named pasta. Yet all of these meals might fail to save the world.
Anyways it is cool to have them but can you stand the resistance from the smell of hot amala and the romantic aroma from a well stirred ewedu soup? In conjunction with some soft and palatable meat, cowskin, fish stew. To wrap it up is when you have a mixture with bean soup!! Haha. I promise your life will never remain the same.
I remember a time when I went to a ceremony, and we were asked to serve ourselves. In the sense that you can just get on the section where the food is arranged, and then point to whatever food you feel like taking, as much as you can. You can have any of these mixtures as you wish.
I saw fufu, eba, pounded yam, semovita, wheat, fufu, and all other varieties of meal on the table, but where is amala?? I felt the absence of amala among them all. Then I was eager to know why. All of the rest were already wrapped and packed in nylons so when you need they just pick it for you.
A friend of mine who wasnt that patient to chill and make a good choice served himself Semovita and some vegetable soup in addition. I was still curious about the absence of amala. Then when it was my turn I requested for Amala. I never knew Amala got its special care.
When I was served, I let go of my plate then they went to a big pot to put some in it. Then the next thing was the lady widened the amala and had a centre hole in between. The hotness was something to write home about.
I was asked if I would like to have some bean soup, then I responded, “please add everything that can help this amala down my throat well”. Then the mighty gbegiri was added in support of this ewedu. I already salivated all of my saliva before having it served. The issue then was that I had to eat with my hand. And it was something I did. My friend who chose semovita felt so disappointed for taking something else other than Amala. He went back to the serving section and then took amala again.
The fun fact was that i didn’t know why, but when i looked at those on other tables, they were silently battling with amala, and even those behind followed my steps.
Amala is a locally prepared meal and it is common to the western part of the country. It is known to be a legendary meal because of its existence over time. It is made with ground dried yam peel, if well prepared you will always want to have more.
