Why I quit Splinterlands

why I quit splinterlands.jpg

I've been a very regular Splinterlands player. I started to play in 2018 and had up to 5 accounts that I was playing at the same time. With my main account alone, I played 44'000 battles! I've never played in the top 100 of the game but was always ranked somewhere between rank 400 and 800. My deck was very good and for a very long time I enjoyed the game very much.

After almost 6 years, I have to say that I was a bit fed up playing the game. I probably never played any other game for that long. So Splinterlands really managed to keep me for much longer than most other games. However, my motivation started to decline and I was happy to be able to delegate my daily battles to xbot. For the last year, I played only my guild battles. I've tried to play some manual games in modern as well but I simply couldn't find the time to do it on a regular basis.

With SPS prices and card prices in constant decline and also with the changes implemented, I hardly made any profit in consideration of the huge amount of money that I had invested in cards. So I hesitated to stop playing the game for quite some time but it's finally a recent proposal that made me do it...

The new Wild requirements and the season pass were the factors that made me stop

Since I'm a very old player. The majority of my cards were of older generations and I could only play them in wild. I had quite a lot of chaos cards as well which allowed me to play in modern as well but I would say that more than 70% of my cards were wild only. With the new requirements that were implemented yesterday, namely the doubling of the sps stake requirement and a season pass costing 2000 DEC for playing wild, I had the feeling that this was a kick in the gut to all the long time players. Not only would my overhead for playing the game become much higher, also the demand for my wild cards would drastically fall with these changes.

The answer to the long time debate that I had with myself regarding continuing the game became very clear as soon as I read the proposal. I have to say that I hadn't checked the proposal when it was up for votation. I stopped doing that after a while. I simply don't have time to check all these proposals. So it's probably my fault as well that I didn't vote against it. With the argument to find a solution against the bot exploit, this proposals made sure that old time players with mainly wild cards had a big disadvantage. After the monetary rewards being nerfed one after the other over time and the increased overhead for playing my wild cards, I simply don't see the point to continue.

Turning a page with some sadness

I had a great time playing SL but it's time to turn the page. Since I've started way before SPS was implemented, I made a very nice financial profit thanks to the game over the years. I'm very grateful for that. Today however, I feel that it's enough. It makes me sad but my motivation to play is low and also the return on my investment doesn't justify the money and time required to continue the adventure. In a way, I hope that the implemented changes will make the game better and fairer. I still think that Splinterlands is one of the best things on hive and I believe that it can offer many nice hours playing it. I hope that you all have a lot of fun with it and it would be great if Splinterlands could again attract more people in the future.

Yes I agree with you 100% on this too. Too many changes, too many proposals, and it's just sad that the game and SPS reached such a stage. I haven't been playing much these days as well, and I haven't thought of what to do after the latest change.

At least there are many things to keep myself occupied within Hive aside from Splinterlands and I think the best part that came out of it was making so many like minded friends.

Too many changes, too many proposals

I also see it like that. I simply don't have time to check 4 new proposals every week. It's a loss of time and it's negative for a game to bring in so many changes.

If it's of any consolation, I doubt all the votes from 90% of the players will do anything to move the needle at all. The decision making power lies with just a few huge whales and what they say goes. To be honest, I am starting to lose interest in Splinterlands with every change they're making too.

I don't get why it is necessary to have 5 new proposals every week. I don't have time to check them out and then such a bomb is among them....

When I read the latest proposal, I knew something like this would happen.
I voted NO to the proposal but I don't have enough staked SPS to change the situation.
Too sad for the game.
There are no new players and old players keep quitting the game, so Splinterlands is like a desert.

There are no new players and old players keep quitting the game

That's the big problem and not the bots. You need to keep old players happy and invite new players to join the fun, not make sure to disgust everybody...

It does seem that the latest proposal is the death blow to any cards in wild. The use case for them has been completely nerfed.

There is also a big elephant in the room called Chaos Legion... What they'll do after Chaos drops from modern? Most players have Chaos Deck...

Yeah, they must buy rebellion..

And the fear will remain... What'll happen to rebellion after it drops from modern, right?

Yeah, this is not inspiring people to invest. I dont know if it is just a thing for Splinterlands or all card games.

I've heard that other cards games has this dual format thing, but I didn't search about it to be 100% sure...

usually when the older card get nerfed with new sets because of power creep.

That true, the newer cards have some OP abilities for example Weapons Training that changed the Splinterlands meta and its from newer sets.

For a long time, wild cards were supposed to be used on land but that didn't work out that well. Now, why would somebody invest in cards if he knows that a couple of years down the road, these cards will be useless...

People will now fear the new set, because they know what happened to those before. Untamed is the example we have, next will be Chaos later on Rebellion will follow if nothing changes.

Once sets go into wild, there will be hardly any demand for them and prices might collapse.

Yeah, unfortunatly if nothing is done that's the future of the Modern Collections.

To be honest, I didn't know so many felt kind of the same. Looks like people don't pay attention to those proposals, for sure.

I'm way too deep into Splinterlands to consider a radical full stop, but I do wonder myself how much more humiliation I can take before I don't give a crap about those assets at all.

As I told you before, without even knowing the reason behind your decision, I understand it. HBD interest doesn't come with all this crap, for example...

I'm way too deep into Splinterlands to consider a radical full stop, but I do wonder myself how much more humiliation I can take before I don't give a crap about those assets at all.

Just you saying these words shows how the players feel treated by the team. What team has 4 new proposals every week? After a couple of months, you simply can't cope with it. How do you base your strategies for the future if you have no idea how the future will look like? In the end it's a trust issue and people don't invest money where there is no trust...

Yes, changes are sometimes radical and unexpected and the lack of predictability doesn't help. I'm even more fed up about the finger pointing (mostly from other members of the community) toward those who use bots on their accounts, as if we (all of us) are to blame for the state in which the game is right now.

As usual, the problem is trust... I know that sometimes it's good to see cards flushed up, change whales, and mix things up... But, many of these decisions that were made worked out badly for early adopters... So, it's hard to regain trust and find "new players" that will invest in the game where the old assets are going down in value, instead of being appreciated more...

You are totally right. With all these proposals, these changes, it becomes impossible to plan or make a strategy. Who wants to invest into something when he can't trust the outcome?

Hello @achim03 , very sad to read this post, without a doubt I also had a hard time with the approval of that proposal, I have not yet decided to leave because the truth is that everything I have in Splinterlands is the product of profits from the same game and the truth is that everything has gone down so much in price that leaving now or everything going to zero wouldn't be a big difference, so I have to hold on to the hope that everything will improve.

But you say they were very good years in this game, maybe that's why we're also bored, currently I'm hoping to have fun with soulkeep, and with that I hope these bitter times will pass more quickly.

I send you a hug, greetings

I also earned most of it through the game and I'm very thankful for what the game brought to me. However, there comes a point where the time investment is simply not worth it and I prefer to step down as long as my assets are still worth something :-)

It sucks to see that you are stopping Splinterlands and I also think that I am planning to cut back how much I play also. I don't like the new changes to wild format because it doesn't solve the actual bot issue. I think I might just do some modern fights and leave the rest alone. I might go around selling my wild format cards.

For years bots were totally welcome and suddenly it's a big issue. I think that concentrating on bots is simply wrong. They should make sure that new players can easily jump on the wagon and also that they can earn some rewards. Without earning potential, nobody will join the game...

Probably the decline in the price of sps has been going down due to the bleed in the crypto market and I believe it will go up well definitely

We can always hope :-)

Even though it might look like the value of the splinterland can be low right now, I believe it can still jack up back

Definitely. it will take some time I believe.

I told them this would happen but they wont hear.

I totally missed this proposal. I only saw it once it passed. It was kind of lost among all the other proposals that I tend to ignore. It wasn't a clever movie in my opinion.

No it was the final nail in the coffin.

I absolutely get you big bro. When a game stops being fun and starts feeling like a chore, it's time to move on. It's hard letting go after investing so much time and money. Best of luck dear friend 🥰💯

Thanks! It was fun for a long time until as you said it started to feel like work :-)

Yes big bro and I'm wishing you the best of luck 💯

Splinterlands will continue to remain one of the best games on the Hive blockchain
I feel posting about it creates more awareness and I’m sure a lot of people will like to join the game

It's a good point to create post about it.
