Each January my company commemorates dr Martin Luther King by giving all employees a day off to do some charitable work. Those of us who work in offices, have organised common activities. I am remote so I can choose my good cause.
I did my way. I invited for a mountain hike a woman who is partially paralyzed after a stroke. Three years after the event, she has fully regained her speech, her right arm is pretty useless and her right leg is good enough to support her.
„Hiking” is not the right word. I took her to three beautiful places, including two mountain tops and the place where borders of Poland, Czechia and Slovakia meet. In each place I drove as far as the road would allow me and then helped the woman to walk the last mile.
It was the first time she was able to see mountains in three years. It was fantastic to give her the joy on a beautiful winter day.
All the short walks have contributed only 8k steps to my day. So when I got home, I went for a 3hrs evening walk.
