Hey Actifitters,
Like I said a few days ago, we're trying to make the best of the end of outdoor concerts season and yesterday was Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins day! So of course, the day went pretty similar again. Why change it when it works! So first, some time with Le Chat in the yard.
Again, since there wasn't much time for a long walk, we only went to the small forest behind the front yard with Kaia.
There's still plenty of space for her to run and explore.
And critters to chase!
I actually really like this forest, especially when the weather is sunny like that.
But once again, the main activity of the day was of course the show in the evening. It was at Comerica Park in Detroit, home of the Tigers. Huge stadium venues are usually not my favorite, especially when I am not able to get tickets in the pit (I could have, but I just didn't want to shell out several hundred bucks). But of course, you won't catch Green Day in the local bar anymore...
We missed the opening from the Linda Lindas and just caught the last couple of songs from Rancid's set. A bit of nostalgia, as I saw them many many years ago opening for Rage Against the Machine in one of my very first concerts! Anyways, we didn't have to wait long before the Smashing Pumpkins showed up.
Great view of the sunset on the GM towers from our seats.
The acoustics in the Stadium were absolutely horrible, well at least where we were. But the Smashing Pumpkins delivered a 1hour show full of energy, and of course filled with their biggest hits.
Billy Corgan and his full-length cloak looked pretty cool, but I also like this new guitar player. She was jumping and rocking all over the place!
After their set and before Green Day showed up, we had a chance to check more of the sunset colors.
We almost missed the start!
Just about five songs in their set, they suddenly rushed off stage. At first, we almost thought it might be part of the show. But it lasted for about 10 minutes with no explanation at all. That was a bit unnerving, especially when there was yet another mass shooting the very same day. We came to know later it was because of an asshole who flew his drone above the stadium and it triggered the safety protocols.
But they came back and pretty much picked it up where the left off with only a simple 'No motherfuckers will stop us!' They ended up playing for over 2 and a half hours!
I had seen Green Day multiple times in the past, but somehow I really liked this show. I guess the fact they played entirely both Dookie and American Idiot, for their respective 30 and 20 years anniversary, was a big part of it. Damn, I'm old!
Well, for a big venue with about 40000 fans, this was really a cool show and it was another very good full day! More to come in the next few days.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
