Well, dont feel envy, actually I witness (a lot of times) captures done with a smartphone (with extra added cheap macro lens for smartphone, as expensive as just 30-50 USD - no comparison with oldschool glass monsters). The key thing for great result is the light, not the lens.
Well, just in case one day you will decide to venture into this DSLR sin - I use Sigma 150mm, it is far far better than Sigma 105mm, and it is significally cheaper then Canon EF 100mm L - which is considered to be the best in Canons lineup.

Those mosquito bites will heal in due time, while the photos you captured and the memories you collected are treasures you bring home with you.
