It has been a crazy day today with a cold morning and totally clear roads and then suddenly in the late morning, we got our first real snow. It was a really big dump of snow and turned everything white.
I was really glad that I could stay in the warm whilst the snow fell. I had planned a trip to a nearby town to return some items from the DIY shop, but decided against it when we got a lot of snow and mabye the roads would not be so safe.
However, later on I decided to go out for a night walk in the snow and the streets were quite empty everywhere. The side roads were not properly de-iced, so driving could be quite precarious. I am glad that I decided against driving until they are all fully de-iced and so can run my errands tomorrow.
It was great to get out in the cold air and enjoy the snowy evening, the first that we have had this year. I was well prepared with long johns to stay warm and many layers!
The town was errily quiet and only the trees in the christmas decorations were bright and shining. As I approached a cafe, there were some die-hard diners drinking coffee outside in -6° temperatures.
They had blankets to help them keep warm. I don't think I could sit outside in this cold, but I have some christmas market visits planned soon and will stay outside. When you are not moving, you can become very cold quickly. Maybe some Glühwein can keep me warm.
The chemist was closed as I approached it. I think most people were at home staying in the warm. Luckily I didn't need any medicine right now, but there is lots of flu going around in the current season.
In the bakery, there were many santa socks ready for the 6th I presume. It was closed as I passed by, so I couldn't go in to check it out more closely.
Thanks for reading.
