5 tips for selling used books on eBay / 5 consigli per vendere libri usati su eBay [ENG/ITA]

A couple of weeks ago I made a post where I was talking about my business on eBay, explaining why I do it, what I sell, and why I chose eBay as my platform.

I had promised a later post where I would give my sales recommendations, or rather, I would share all those tricks I apply to try to sell my used books quickly. Well, what you are reading is that post. Let's start:

1- Photographs of the product. I usually load in each ad 3 high-quality photos of the book I sell. It is important to be of high quality because so the potential customer can well understand any marks or imperfections of the product;

2- Ad type. Until now I have always chosen 'Buy it now'. I prefer a defined price and possibly a bargain with the customer, rather than an auction. Auctions work if the starting price is very attractive and there is competition. But that's not the case for my books. However, I would like to experiment with it in the future.

However, I leave the 'proposal to purchase' option to the customer without a minimum price. I want clients to be free to write to me and make proposals. We talk about it and maybe we both come out satisfied.

3- Fill in all changes. Even boring or useless ones. eBay has plenty of fillable fields for the seller. The algorithm rewards those who give as much information as possible, so I always compile everything. Even the superfluous ones.

4- Shipping costs included. I always offer the shipping included (for books it is the Book Fold), leaving a paid option if someone wants tracking. I think it makes a good impression for the customer and I would still pay commissions to eBay on shipping as well.

5- I'm looking for the minimum price. For each product I search on eBay if someone is already selling it and at what price (shipping included). After that I make my ad at a slightly lower price.

The goal is to be the cheapest seller.

That's how many friends. I hope you have found some useful ideas.

As already explained my purpose is not to earn, but to recover part of the value of objects that I do not use, at the same time contributing to doing good to the environment.

Cominciamo:

1- Fotografie del prodotto. Io solitamente carico in ogni annuncio 3 foto in alta qualità del libro che vendo. È importante sia di alta qualità perché così il potenziale cliente può capire bene eventuali segni o imperfezioni del prodotto;

Ne parliamo e magari ne usciamo entrambi soddisfatti.

3- Compilare tutti i cambi.

Elettronica forse subito.it.

Prova a vederla così, magari aiuta!

I run my own second-hand bookshop in Poland. Here, we have a local monopoly called Allegro, and eBay is practically non-existent. Besides listing on Allegro, I’m also setting up my own online store.

At the moment, I have around 2k books. Within a month or two, I should hit 5k, which will be enough to launch the store.

When preparing my listings, I use two AIs. Specifically, I use them to create content descriptions – with this many books, it’s obvious I haven’t read them all :)

I use Perplexity to gather facts about the book/author, and GTP to write the actual review. The first AI is better at finding data, and it’s basically essential because without it, GTP can create convincing-sounding reviews for books that don’t even exist :)

Wow, that’s an intriguing tip! Using AI bot to write better descriptions.
I will keep it in mind for the future!

Stewie, I do really love the concept of your reaching out and your community service. At first I was about to comment why you should not make your product price cheap but I was able to understand your objectives with the price tag reduction.

Someday too I would love to market and curate my service on eBay too, and I am very sure it would be an exciting journey to embark on. Helping and rendering communal and community service should be at its core this era. Bless you Stewie for your service.

Looking forward to more interactions together

I’m sure that you will do great things when you’ll start your journey with eBay.
Keep prices low, make great list and everything will go well.

Thanks to stop by my friend!
