There's nothing quite like a great cup of coffee first thing in the morning. Not too long ago I shared a post with you all about the gift of an Aeropress coffee maker I had received for Christmas. I mentioned my first cup came out weak so I increased the amount of ground coffee and brewing time. As it turns out @dbooster also has one and recommended something called the inverted method to produce stronger cups of coffee. After researching it I tried in out and it works using less coffee and still produced a great cup. I'm going to share that innovative method today!
First off if you missed the previous post here's a link if you want to see the method recommended in the original instructions. Plus you can see the difference in this method.
First off here's the great cup of coffee it makes. I'm reusing the same photo as the last post because the steam showed up much better than today's, but it looked the same, you can take my word for it!
Here are the parts that come with the Aeropress, it's essentially a giant syringe.
The inverted method involved flipping the Aeropress upside down to make the coffee in order to produce a stronger cup of coffee. Here we place the plunger on the bottom facing up with the brewing cylinder placed on top to create a seal to brew the coffee. Pretty much opposite of the original method in the first post.
You dump the ground coffee down onto the plunger in preparation to pour in the boiling water. And yes it comes with it's own handy scoop! You will note even with the scoop I still manage to make a mess.
These next two simply show the individual coffee filter that sits inside the cap that you place on top of the of the tube once water is poured in and stirred.
Water freshly boiled places in a measuring cup makes pouring into the cylinder much easier and safer than directly from the pan (and less messy.)
Once filled to the top you take the handy stirring device and stir.
Place the cap with the coffee filter inside on top and screw into place.
You now let the coffee sit and brew. The instruction say thirty seconds, I recommend around two minutes if you want to get a nice strong cup of coffee. Thirty seconds came out kind of weak. Once you've let it brew the two minutes you turn it over and place it on top of your cup.
You then simply press down the plunger slowly and the fresh smelling coffee fills up your cup. It really comes out great tasting using much less ground coffee thus saving some money which is always a good thing. It really tastes like something you buy at coffee shop.
In essence the Aeropress is a French Press that is made out of simpler materials but produces the same quality of coffee. You will notice I use paper towels under the whole setup, there are two simple reasons for that. First with the granite color you would have a hard time seeing the grey apparatus, and secondly I seem to be very good at dropping some ground coffee on the outside of the cylinder and catches any drips after you finish pressing out the coffee.
Now it's time some some great coffee! I like mine black with no cream or sugar, what's your favorite?
I usually use a Keurig because it's much simpler to simply insert a k-cup and push start. I guess the convenience is nice and produces great coffee with less setup and mess. But if you want to brew coffee to your preferred strength the Aeropress is a great tool to make some great coffee!
And since this is being published in #freecompliments I would like to ask everyone to take a few minutes today to be kind to someone. Even a small kind act can make a big difference in someone else's life!
