Happy Friday everyone! Since it's Friday I will be sharing my new edition of #ninetiesfriday , where you can share just about anything from the decade of the 1990's. It can be movies, TV shows, clothing, pictures, memories... your imagination is the limit! First off I would like to thank @geneeverett for coming up with the idea and getting in rolling. Each week one lucky winner will receive 6 HSBI units, three from Gene, and three from me. So please feel free to join in on the fun, you may walk away with some cool HSBI!
To start off I usually like to find a cool gadget that came out in the 90's, and today is no exception. Anyone remember the Talkboy? If you saw Home Alone 2 you've seen one before, although the one in the film was a prop built for the movie in 1992. You could record then speed up or slow down the recording to change the voice, it was cool. The Talkboy was then built and marketed heavily in 1993 making it the most sought out holiday gift of the season. The manufacturer had severely miscalculated demand and supplies sold out everywhere very quickly. Talk about a lot of missed revenue... Ouch!
The Talkboy will launch us right into the first movie of the day, I can't share the Talkboy without Home Alone 2!
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
This sequel was release in November 1992 just in time for the holidays. It followed the same premise as the first movie only this time in the New York Plaza Hotel instead of at home. It was a huge money maker for the production company and for the maker of the Talkboy. I'm sure almost everyone has seen this one, but it's a fun holiday themed movie for those who are younger and may have somehow missed it.
Goodfellas
This movie classic was released in 1990 and often lauded as the best movie of Martin Scorsese's career. It had an all star cast with Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Paul Sorvino just to name just a few. If you like mafia related movies you will love this one, and you've probably seen it more than once. It's a great movie, here's the original trailer.
The Usual Suspects
Released in 1995 and starring Stephen Baldwin, Roger Pollack, Kevin Spacey, and Benicio del Toro is a crime movie with a serious twist. The story is being told by career criminal Verbal Kint (Spacey) during a police interview flashing back to the events leading up to a massacre at the Port of Los Angeles. If you missed this one it's well worth watching. And for those who have seen it will well remember Keyser Söze. Here's the original trailer.
And now let's move onto some classic music from the 90's!
Rob Zombie
thefamouspeople.com
Rob Zombie rose to prominence as lead singer of the band White Zombie in the mid 1980's before going solo in 1996. His music is known for being themed with elements horror and suspense, and it's a lot of fun. In 1998 he released his debut album "Hellbilly Deluxe" which sold over three million copies. There were some great songs on this record, but for today I chose to go with the leading track, "Dragula":
Wasn't that video a lot of fun?
Warrant
hairbands.xyz
Warrant is a hard rock/ metal band formed in Hollywood, California in 1984. It took them several years to make the rise to fame with their debut album "Dirty Rotten Stinking Filthy Rich" in 1989. Then in 1990 they released probably their best know song and album "Cherry Pie". The song rose to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the video was played so much on MTV that you almost got sick of it. Here's some "Cherry Pie":
Collective Soul
top5000-rocketman5000.blogspot.com
This band formed in 1992 in Stockbridge, Georgia. I must admit that until today I had never heard of the city before, then again I don't think I've ever been outside of Atlanta when I was in Georgia, and that was military reasons... Their debut album "Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid" launched them from complete unknowns to rock stars nearly overnight. The single that was responsible for the rise to fame was "Shine":
And as I've mentioned in the past I spent the majority of the 90's in countries that really only spoke Spanish. I like to include at least one song in Spanish from the era of the 90's. Since I did Shakira last week let's go with another favorite of mine.
La Oreja De Van Gogh
shangay.com
La Oreja de Van Gogh (Van Gogh's Ear) is a Spanish rock band from San Sebastian, Spain. Formed in 1996 their first album "Dile Al Sol" launched them to national fame in Spain. Their second album made them world famous, but today we're sticking with the 90's. Their lead singer Amaia Montero's unique singing style was what I really enjoyed when I first heard them. This is the song that really launched their career, "Cuéntame al Oido":
And just for fun I will end with a clip from SpongeBob Squarepants, the series was launched in 1999 and is still going strong. This clip is from 2002, so not technically from the 90's, but it's hilarious! The depressive Squidward always makes me laugh!
That will wrap up this edition of my #ninetiesfriday . I hope you enjoyed the movie trailers and videos I've shared today, it was a lot of fun to put together. I thought the Spongebob clip was the most fun by far! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below. Have a great weekend everyone!
And since I am posting in the #freecompliments community I just wanted to remind everyone to take some time today to be kind. A little kindness can make a huge difference in someone's life. Please check out the community and consider joining us!
And a quick shoutout to @inthenow because I did include some hard rock music in here!
