As most of you know I love treasure hunting! Back when I lived in the Caribbean I was diving as much as possible to see the reefs and poke around for treasure while I was at it. It was truly a great place to live with so many great beaches and places to dive or snorkel. Plus you get just about much fresh seafood as you can eat, most of it I caught myself making it a lot more fun!
Back a couple months ago I started to share some coins from the British Virgin Islands that were minted back in the 1985. I thought it might be fun to pick up on where I left off in the series. I haven't been following an exact order, mostly just puling up some of my images I photographed several years back for insurance purposes. This one is a beautiful coin!
About the coin:
From numista.com
This coin comes from the Sunken Ship Treasures of the Caribbean series, which are all beautiful coins commemorating all of the sunken ships laden with treasure that still ay at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea. These were minted in 1985 by the Franklin Mint in Wawa, Pennsylvania, US. The whole series is beautiful, I have most of them but I'm still missing a few still. This one is the crossed cannons which is fitting because the reefs and seafloor of the region are littered with old cannons lost with sunken ships or were thrown overboard for one reason or another. I found one myself with my diving buddy off of Miami. Florida, but since our boat was too small we couldn't recover it. But no gold or silver coins were anywhere nearby unfortunately, so no pirate treasure...
These coins are fun to collect and really not too expensive. It makes them great for collecting or stacking. Since they were minted in sterling silver they do tend to spot up a bit, and I suspect many spent several years in the Caribbean with the high humidity causing some tarnishing. I love the sea themed coins as well as lost treasures so I have enjoyed hunting them down over the years.
I know it's January in the northern hemisphere and that always means cold and lots of snow. For those down below the equator it's the opposite! But for those of us still trapped in winter I thought I would share some awesome pictures of the British Virgin Islands. The first is a beautiful beach, and the second a picture from the baths on Virgin Gorda. If you haven't been to Virgin Gorda put it on your to do list, you won't regret it!

Just look at that water... What else can I say?

The baths of Virgin Gorda, they're a series of small pools and caves right along the coastline.
I hope you enjoyed my continuation on the British Virgin Islands silver coin series from 1985. If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments please feel free to leave them below. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

And my disclaimer:
Gold and silver collecting and stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.
