Happy Saturday Community! Last night I was watched the Chess.com Classic Champions Chess Tour in youtube.
I played chess since I was a kid and I am somewhat decent in the game and even helped pay may tuition when I played for my school as a varsity. Currently I haven't played much over the board chess and just play online. I also watch streaming chess tournaments. Since Covid in 2020, there was a rapid rise in the popularity of online chess and chess streaming. A lot of tournaments have to played online due to Covid. The games can be seen on youtube live while there are commentators on the game.
If you think chess is not a sport then consider this: Chess demands the same discipline and dedication as other sports. Players have to study for hours preparing for tournaments as well as train their body physically. When I was playing for my school, part of our training was to run for an hour. Professional chess players also work out as part of their training. Checkout this article why players need physical training for a game focused on thinking.
Also if you think chess is a boring game then you are mistaken. There's a lot of excitement and drama happening when watching a game of chess. You can feel the joy of victory and agony of defeat watching the players make surprising moves and terrible blunders. Checkout this rage compilation of former World Champion, Magnus Carlsen 😀
Back to the tournament, a lot of the games were fun to watch but the last game was especially exciting. World #18 Jan-Krzysztof Duda played an offbeat opening against World #16 Alireza Firouzja. He dominated the game and his opponent blundered into a one move mate.
