Hello Players and Fans,

I am thrilled to announce Season 18 - the Olympics. There will be 5 distinct events, each with different rules. For the first time in @macfit history, there will be team competitions.

This post is a heads-up - with a sketch of the rules, rosters and schedules for each event. Subsequent posts will be focused on a specific event.

"Volleyball"

Nothing to do with volleyball really, except that the format follows that of the volleyball tournament at the Paris Olympics.

This event is for the elite of @macfit. 12 best active players from the ranking will participate. The play starts with a group phase (3 groups with 4 players each; single round-robin), followed by quarterfinals, semifinals and the final.

  4. @sk1920

Players who finish 1st and 2nd in each group plus 2 best players from 3rd places will advance to the playoffs, where a single match per round will be played.

Schedule

Group phase:

  • each group will have one match day on a weekend and 2 on working days, played Friday, July 26 - Wednesday, July 31

Quarterfinals:

  • Saturday, August 3

Semifinals:

  • Wednesday, August 7

Final and 3rd place match:

"Tennis"

The format doesn't follow an Olympic event at tennis, but think of tennis team competitions. There are 8 teams with 3 players each. First, two "singles" will be played. If a team wins both singles, they advance to the next round. Otherwise, a double match will be played as a decider.

Participants

16 best players from Season 17 have been divided into 8 teams. Each team captain was asked to invite their 3rd teammate.

"4 x 100 Relay"

I hope this will be the most exciting and engaging event - it's a team competition. Members of the team will "run" in sequence, with the goal for each runner of achieving a score of 100 (roughly 100,000 steps). When the first runner reaches the finish line, the next one on the team starts running.

Since achieving 100,000 steps make take long time for some players, a system of handicaps has been introduced.

Participants

16 best players from Season 17 have been grouped into 4 teams. Each team captain can add a substitute.

Handicaps (ie. the starting score of a player) are based on the following formula:

  • Season 17 semi-finalists: no handicap
  • Season 17 quarter-finalists: half of their score in the Season 17 quarterfinal
  • Season 17 Round of 16 players: double their score in the said Round
  • Substitutes: triple the average match score of all active players who ended the tournament in the group phase (11)
    -- captains can decide to replace a player with the substitute

Team Blue

Captain: @merthin (handicap = 0)
Members: @new.things (25); @itz.inno (28); @davidthompson57 (16)
Substitute: @mushanov (33)

Team Green

Captain: @manuvert (0)
Members: @bucipuci (21); @nabbas0786 (28); @cezary-io (38)
Substitute: TBD (33)

Team Orange

Captain: @fredkese (0)
Members: @erikklok (16); @sk1920 (38); @danmaruschak (46)
Substitute: TBD (33)

Team Red

Captain: @browery (0)
Members: @benbow2017 (22); @racibo (22); @homesteadlt (28)
Substitute: TBD (33)

Schedule

The first players of each team will start running on Friday, July 26. The end date is Sunday, August 11 or when 3 teams reach the finish line.

"Cycling"

There's an cycling Olympic event called "Omnium". Part of it, there's elimination race called "miss and out". Simple rule - player who finishes last is eliminated and the rest continue racing until one cyclist is left.

Participants

16 best players from Season 17. If a report is missing on the first day of the competition, I will add a player from among those who ended Season 17 in the group phase.

@bucipuci
@manuvert
@merthin

@davidthompson57

Schedule

The racing starts on Friday, July 26 and runs for 15 consecutive days.

"Decathlon"

Decathlon is 10 different competitions. In our version, it will be 10 days of scoring. The rule is that each day, the score must be higher than on the previous day. If it is equal or lower, the player is eliminated,

Participants

Anyone. Really.
The event will start on Friday, July 26 and two days later I will post the scores of all players who participated in Season 17, including the qualifiers. But anyone reading this can join - by commenting the said post with their score within 24hrs. Subsequently, the players will have to provide their scores on each day.
