Somehow it's already Saturday. I'm not sure how time flies so fast, but I can't seem to keep up.
Yesterday I took the day off of work and my husband and I had hoped to do something as a couple. This weekend we celebrate our second wedding anniversary. Jeff was called away to work in Detroit; a four-hour drive one way. He left in the morning. I stayed home and spent the morning in quiet Bible study, prayer, and meditation.
Following devotions, I caught up via text with my best friend who lives in Canada about our respective current events, then I fried a tasty egg, ham, onion and tomato omelet. I decided to remain indoors until it was time to attend the viewing of my dear friend's sister due to high temperatures and humidity.
The heat became a real problem when I struggled to prepare to leave the house. I moved from the hot, muggy bathroom to our bedroom to get ready to leave with air conditioning trying to maintain a reasonable body temperature. I lost that battle right before I was scheduled to leave for the hour drive to Erie, Pennsylvania. Nausea overcame my stomach and I couldn't avoid it. After getting ill, I went back to the bedroom to cool off before putting a fan in front of our dog's crates and turning on my car's air conditioner so that I could transition from the bedroom to a cool car.
Several members of my church came to show my friend support and comfort her. The deceased's boss of ten years came from Boston, Massachusetts to show respect and to bring a book filled with words of praise and comfort from world-renowned specialists in cardiovascular to oncology for the wonderful woman who helped them all as they communicated their craft for books and websites for a decade. This gift deeply moved my friend, who knew her sister worked with publishers, but, until yesterday, she was not aware of how widespread her sister's impact reached
Today Jeff and I went to the funeral and burial. Our Pastor spoke at the funeral after my friend and her sister's boss shared fond memories about her sister's life. Pastor shared the plan of salvation through faith in Jesus in his message, and six people prayed to receive Christ as their personal Savior. Her sister resides in Heaven and is rejoicing today knowing that she will greet six of her loved ones in Heaven one day in the future.
A wake was served at our church and we enjoyed fellowship with our Pastor, his wife, and another couple. I pray for God to comfort my friend and her family as they go about taking care of the many details that need attending to.
The day is closing out with more rain. Fortunately, the visit to the grave saw a break from the almost constant rain.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
