Greetings friends who love crafts. Often one often has old objects at home that get damaged over time. In my case I found a few picture frames in very bad condition, which I decided to restore to see what I can do with them later.

Saludos amigos amantes de las manualidades. Con frecuencia uno suele tener objetos viejos en casa que se dañan con el tiempo. En mi caso encontré uno cuantos portarretratos en muy malas condiciones, que me animé a restaurar a ver qué puedo hacer con ellos después.
There were 3 that I restored and I was really happy with the result. Join me in this process.
The first portrait was completely destroyed, the four pieces that compose it were separated and the joints were broken, as you can see it was not so easy to restore it.
Fueron 3 que restauré y la verdad quedé contento con el resultado. Acompáñenme en este proceso.
El primer portarretrato estaba completamente destrozado, las cuatro piezas que lo componen estaban separadas y las uniones rotas, como ven no estaba tan fácil restaurarlo.

The first thing I did was to use my tools to remove the thick layer of paint I had. I thought about using sandpaper at first, but the paint was too thick so I opted for these tools, which ripped the paint off like concrete on a wall.
Lo primero que hice fue usar mis herramientas para retirar la gruesa capa de pintura que tenía. Pensé en un comienzo usar papel de lija, pero era demasiada gruesa la pintura así que me decanté por estas herramientas, que arrancaron la pintura como si fuese concreto en una pared.

Once the paint was removed, I did use the sandpaper to sand the surface of the wood so that the new paint would stick to the surface better. I then placed all the pieces together to see how they looked.
Una vez retirada la pintura, sí usé el papel de lija para lijar la superficie de la madera, de modo que la nueva pintura se pegase mejor en la superficie. Luego coloqué juntas todas las piezas a ver cómo se veían.

Evidently they were loose, so I used an epoxy mixture to join them with their respective metal joints. I used play dough to hold the joints in place while the epoxy glue dried inside the joints.
Evidentemente estaban sueltas, así que usé una mezcla epóxica para unirlos con sus respectivas uniones metálicas. Usé plastilina para mantener las uniones fijas mientras el pegamento epóxico secaba dentro de las uniones.

I also had a couple more picture frames, which I joined with special angles and sanded with the same sandpaper as before, to leave both objects with a smooth surface for the new paint.
También tenía un par de portarretratos más, que uní con ángulos especiales y lijé con el mismo papel de lija de antes, para dejar ambos objetos con una superficie suave para la nueva pintura.

I used a matte colored paint to give the new finishes to these picture frames. Since I don't have an airbrush and didn't want to leave brush marks in the paint, I decided to paint with a sponge, a technique that is often used to avoid leaving too many marks on the surface.
Usé una pintura color mate para darle los nuevos acabados a estos portarretratos. Como no tengo un aerógrafo y no quería dejar marcas de pinceles en la pintura, decidí pintar con una esponja, una técnica que suele utilizarse para no dejar demasiadas marcas en la superficie.

I let them dry and began to fix on one of the picture frames, some pieces that hold the back of it, where the photo in question is located. I fixed them very well with screws and glue.
Los dejé secar y comencé a fijar en uno de los portarretratos, unas piezas que sostienen la parte trasera del mismo, donde va ubicada la foto en cuestión. Estos los fijé muy bien con tornillos y pegamento.

One of these pieces I had to cut to size from another piece of wood, as I didn't have it, so it was the best way I could think of to create this piece that goes behind and holds the photo.
Una de estas piezas tuve que cortarlas a medida de otro trozo de madera, pues no las tenía, así que fue la mejor manera que se me ocurrió para crear esta pieza que va detrás y sostiene la foto.

In this way I finished restoring these picture frames that I will soon be using to decorate my house. Here are a few pictures of the final result.
