It is a pleasure to greet you. At this time of the year, people usually give very nice gifts to their friends and loved ones.

As a craftsman, I received an order to make a gift with an old locket that the person who made the order had at home. The locket was old, but that doesn't mean it was damaged or worn out, it just hadn't been used, notice that it didn't even have a chain.

Un gusto saludarles. En estas fechas las personas acostumbran a hacer regalos muy lindos a los amigos y amores que tienen.

Como manualista que soy, recibí un encargo de hacer un regalo con un viejo relicario que la persona que hizo e encargo tenía en su casa. Era viejo el relicario, pero no significa que estuviese dañado o gastado, simplemente no lo habían usado, fíjense que incluso no tenía cadena.

It was still in very good condition. I did have to use a little oil on the hinge that opens the locket, as it felt rustic and hard when opening and closing it, but with the oil it was as good as new.

The idea was to open it to glue a couple of photos chosen by the person who commissioned this craft. I printed the photos on photo paper, as I think it is the most suitable paper for this type of work.

Aún así estaba en muy buenas condiciones. Sí tuve que usar un poco de aceite en la bisagra que abre el relicario, pues se sentía rústico y duro al abrirlo y cerrarlo, pero con el aceite quedó como nuevo.

La idea era abrirlo para pegarle un par de fotos que escogió la persona que me encargó esta manualidad. Imprimí las fotos en papel de fotografía, pues considero que es el papel mas adecuado para este tipo de trabajo.

Note that the shape of the locket is that of a heart, so you can see that in the photo above are marked more photos of the girls in the shape of a heart, to glue them inside, one on each side.

The idea of making the mark is to have an idea of where to cut; however, when I cut, I had to make adjustments with the cutter so that the photos would fit well in the locket.

Fíjense que la forma del relicario es la de un corazón, por eso pueden ver que en la foto de arriba estan marcadas mas fotos de las niñas con forma de corazón, para pegarlas en el interior, una a cada lado.

La idea de hacer la marca es tener una idea de dónde cortar; sin embargo, cuando corté, tuve que hacer ajustes con el cutter para que las fotos quedaran bien en el relicario.

I honestly had no idea how to glue the photo to the locket without damaging it. I didn't know if hot silicone would damage the photo, so I decided to use an extra strong, fast drying glue, which is usually used for wooden things.

The problem is that the surface of the locket was very smooth, so I sensed that the glue would not adhere well, so I scraped the bottom a little with a piece of sandpaper, to create a surface where the glue could adhere.

Sinceramente no tenía idea de cómo pegar la foto al relicario sin que se dañara. No sabía si el silicón caliente dañaría la foto, así que me decidí por una pega extra fuerte de secado rápido, que suele usarse para cosas de madera.

El problema es que la superficie del relicario era muy lisa, por lo que intuí que la pega no se adheriría bien, por eso raspé un poco el fondo con un trocito de papel de lija, para crear una superficie donde el pegamento pudiera adherirse.

I then added the glue to the background, just enough to stick the photo and hold it in place. When the glue dried, I checked that the photos were well adhered by the glue and yes, they were.

Entonces agregué el pegamento al fondo, suficiente para que pegara la foto y la mantuviera fija en su lugar. Al secar el pegamento, verifiqué que las fotografías estuviesen bien adheridas por el pegamento y sí, lo estaban.

A continuación pueden ver una imagen de cómo quedó el relicario con las fotos.

As I told you, the person who asked me to make the handicraft only had the locket, so I had to look in the stores for a small chain for this locket.

It wasn't hard to find a gold chain on its own, but it was a little tricky to find one that would go all the way through the ring from which the locket hung. So it was simply a matter of taking it out of her bag and attaching it to the gold heart ring.

Como les dije, la persona que me encargó la manualidad solo tenía el relicario, así que tuve que buscar en las tiendas una pequeña cadena para este relicario.

No fue difícil encontrar una cadena dorada sola, pero sí tue un poco complicado encontrar una que pasara por completo por la argolla de la que colgaba el relicario. Así que simplemente fue cuestión de sacarla de su bolsa y colocarla en la argolla del dorado corazón.

Well, the locket is ready, now it's time to make the box where this precious garment will go. I made a small pattern on paper and then transferred it to cardboard.

It is a little box in one piece, whose ends are folded over each other to close.

Bien, listo el relicario, ahora es turno de hacer la caja donde irá esta preciosa prenda. Hice un pequeño patrón en papel y luego lo trasladé a cartulina.

Es una cajita de una sola pieza, cuyos extremos se doblan sobre sí para cerrarse.

In addition to transferring the pattern onto the white cardstock, I also transferred it onto a dark blue cardstock. I cut the pattern with the cutter.

Además de trasladar el patrón en la cartulina blanca, también lo hice en una cartulina azul oscura. Corté el patrón con el cutter.

Once the box was made, I made a small square of paper on which the locket would be held, to keep it fixed in one place inside the box.

Una vez hecha la caja, hice un pequeño cuadrado de papel sobre el cual se sostendría el relicario, para mantenerlo fijamente en un mismo lugar dentro del a cajita.

The last thing I did was to place, as an additional decorative detail, one of the many quilling paper flowers that a hive user (@dayadam) gave me at the Caracas Blockchain Week.

This way this little locket was ready to be delivered. Below you can see some pictures of the final result:
