Good evening, today I'm going to talk about Dover, a group that started off very well and changed radically, and this post is a critique of it and we'll also review their albums

So let's start

This chameleon-like group has shown that it can adapt to any musical environment, prostituting itself without any scruples. It went from the cool grunge and alternative sound to the pathetic sound. This group that fell into the pit of oblivion was founded in Madrid in 1992 by the sisters Cristina (vocals) and Amparo Llanos (guitar), together with Jesús Antúnez (drums) and Samuel Titos or Álvaro Díez (bass, in different stages). Dover marked a before and after in Spanish music by singing mainly in English. Until they hit rock bottom.

Musical trajectory

  • Between the 90s and early 2000s, they achieved international fame thanks to their unique style, influenced by bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

Featured Albums:

Sister (1995)

  • Their debut album, but not even the doorman at the club where they were playing knew about it hahahahahaha

Devil Came to Me (1997)

  • The album Devil Came to Me marked a turning point in their career. Released in 1997, they became anthems of the time. The album, released by a small independent record label, surprised by reaching multi-platinum status. It was one of the most representative albums of alternative music in Spain.

Late at Night (1999)

  • They continued their international success. Songs like "DJ" showed an evolution in their sound, more polished and with pop-rock influences.

The Flame (2003)

  • Problems have already started in the group with a change of style and I really don't understand it.

Follow the City Lights (2006)

  • This album marked a very big change towards an electronic style, largely abandoning grunge. Although this was a resounding success, it also generated controversy among its more traditional followers.

In 2016, Dover announced their disbandment after more than two decades, and it was normal that such a radical change cannot be made and then everything must be fixed. Amparo Llanos, who was the main composer, explained that creative differences and natural wear and tear led them to make this decision. Since then, the members have pursued individual projects.
