So, at the beginning I wanted to DNF it. Then later, I thought it would easily be a 4-star read (around chapter 18-28?). But I got tired of how chaotic and long it was, and my rating kept going down. I’m mostly just a bit angry and disappointed because there was huge potential! An interesting world building, vibe, etc. but the dense writing style, undeveloped characters, and chaotic plot ruined it for me. Now I know what “bituminous” means, but I doubt I’ll ever need it. I really think this book would be SO much better without all those weird words. A bit more focus on the characters, and I would’ve been a happy human being. It started insanely slow, and then we got dumped with so much world-building info: crisis energy, dimensions, planes, hell, demons, Weaver—and like, what? Why did it suddenly turn into this insane mix? Because of that, so many interesting subplots felt abandoned imo, just mentioned and left alone while we had to chase something else. Like hell yeah I am down for this insane mix but too complex and confusing, could have been done better for sure. That said, I’m heartbroken for Lin. That was so sad. There was probably more I wanted to say in this final review after mentioning it in my chapter thoughts, but right now, I’m too tired. Quite frankly, I’m just happy it’s over.
I also don't understand the need of so many sophisticated words for, what I feel like, no reason. Like it's actually not adding to the experience, the opposite even. Isaac is searching for a way to help Yahgarek get his wings back. He/they had wings and lost them (they were cut) because of the punishment - the crime he committed of "choice-theft". And yeah right about Lin, making a sculpture of someone who was very heavily remade, seems like he is some drug boss or even higher than that.
