It’s Alt Pop Picks so that means Ashlee decided the theme today. It’s not just any day! It’s Three Tune Tuesday! We’ll each bring you three tunes from the Y2K era (2000’s) particularly 2006-2012 today all from the 2000’s Alt Pop Scene…

First up it’s Ashlee’s picks 👇

First up it’s the band Matt & Kim from the 2006 debut album Matt & Kim.

The song is the opening track It's A Fact. Many people think the 2009 Grand record was the first but it wasn’t!

Second up for Ashlee it’s 2011 released album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming from the artist M83. This tune was actually quite a radio hit breaking out the indie bands first big success on this 4th album from them.

The song is Midnight City and I love it! Even Gene thinks it’s catchy AF!

Third up it’s the band GROUPLOVE and also a 2011 released tune and album Never Trust a Happy Song.

The song Tongue Tied is my pick. Also a song that got some radio play in the 2008-2014 era of these Alt Pop artists breaking through.

The song Somebody That I Used To Know from the artist Gotye off the Making Mirrors record. Also a 2011 release. It really was a magic year for Alternative Pop getting mainstream attention.

First up I’m going with MGNT and the song Time To Pretend off the 2007 release Oracular Spectacular.

I remember hearing this song on the radio in late 2007 or early 2008. I was immediately hooked! There’s just something special about this song!

Next up it’s the 2011 debut album from the band Foster The People!

The song again another 2011 Alt Pop Indie band blows up on top 40 radio! Everybody knows the song Pumped Up Kicks but I’m going with another single that I think is an even better song and should have been huge! The song Helena Beat

Last up I’m going with the song Take A Walk from the band Passion Pit.

Another song that got top 40 play and came out in 2012. The album Gossamer produced a one hit wonder and unlike MGMT & Foster The People I do think this is the only good song by them. But kinda amazing how much mainstream attention all of our picks got at some point between 2007-2013.

And why not I’ll throw in a bonus tune!

This tune is from one of Ashlee’s Artists above. I’m going with M83’s 2008 song Kim & Jessie.

It’s definitely A mellow vibe but to me it just reminds of of an eighties movie soundtrack even though it was released on the 2008 album Saturdays = Youth. Just personally have a nostalgia for that kinda thing.
