To create something of value

Late last night on national TV they surprisingly aired that iconic 1986 Queen concert at Wembley and it got me thinking again about the meaning of life. I grew up with Freddie Mercury's music, he is a talent beyond human perception, even though I was little I remember this concert very well. In fact, I suspect that it was broadcast years later on Bulgarian television because of media censorship. But that doesn't really matter now. What is important is that this concert and this person yesterday made me wonder again if people like him in the past created with a single goal - to survive, to sell their product, to somehow push it to the public, somehow to lie that it is something of value and should be bought, listened to, read, using all kinds of advertising tricks. As things go for the most part these days in terms of books, music, movies, etc. Was it money and lies that drove people in the past to create, or that divine impulse to create something of value, to express yourself in the best possible way, leaving behind something of value?
