Critical thinking is always critical. It's worth investigating and scrutinizing.

A wound that caused enough blood to run down to the chin would not stop bleeding immediately after impact. The ear has a very large number of blood vessels at and near the surface. If the (presumed) bullet cauterized the wound, no blood would have run down at all.

I honestly do not know what the ear should have looked like, what I saw seemed as if it was consistent with what we are told. So often we are told what we are seeing, instead of seeing what we are seeing without asking ourselves "are we seeing what we should be seeing?".
