Greetings friends who love handicrafts! Welcome once again to my DC DIY Workshop. Today I would like to share with you a little project I worked on with my daughter for the closing of her school project "Recycling saves the planet", where we parents had to support our little ones with a sign that highlighted the importance of taking care of the environment by using recycled material. Join me and I'll show you how we made this sign.

Hoy me gustaría compartir con ustedes un pequeño proyecto que trabajé con mi hija para el cierre de su proyecto escolar "Reciclando salvamos el planeta", donde los padres debíamos apoyar a nuestros pequeños con un letrero que resaltara la importancia de cuidar el ambiente utilizando material de reciclaje. Acompáñenme y les muestro como hicimos este letrero.

Cardboard from an unused box
2 white sheets of paper
Markers
Pencil
Scissors
Colored chalk
School glue
Tempera
Sheet of newspaper
Plastic balloon clip
Hot glue

Elaboration

We take the sheet and cut out a rectangle. We reserve the parts that we will use later to write the message on the sign.

Tomamos la hoja y recortamos un rectángulo. Reservamos las partes que usaremos luego para escribir el mensaje del letrero.

With the chalk we are going to give color to the leaf to highlight the background of the sign. We can leave the color as we painted the chalk or we can degrade it with our finger.

Con la tiza vamos darle color a la hoja para resaltar el fondo del letrero. Podemos dejar el color tal y como pintamos la tiza o podemos degradarlo con el dedo.

I used 3 colors of chalk to make a gradient and mix them all together.

Yo utilicé 3 colores de tiza para hacer un degradado y mezclarlos todos.

We wrote the message in different colors with the markers. I wanted to put: Leave your footprint by taking care of the planet.

Escribimos el mensaje en colores diferentes con los marcadores. Yo quise colocar: Deja tú huella cuidando del planeta.

We cut out the words leaving a white border so that it would stand out against the background color of the poster.

We applied glue to the sheet that we painted with chalk and glued it to the cardboard.

Recortamos las palabras dejando un borde blanco para que resaltara sobre el color del fondo del cartel.

Aplicamos pegamento a la hoja que pintamos con tiza y pegamos sobre el cartón.

We can use some decorative elements on our sign to help highlight the message a bit. For our project, I wanted to make the planet earth and my daughter's handprint to place these elements on the sides of the message.

Once we have the base of the sign, we proceed to place the message. I got a piece of black cardboard and highlighted 2 words by gluing over the black background and leaving a border. This highlights the most important part of the message.

Podemos utilizar algunos elementos decorativos en nuestro letrero, que ayuden a resaltar un poco el mensaje. Para nuestro proyecto, quise hacer el planeta tierra y la huella de la mano de mi hija para colocar estos elementos a los lados del mensaje.

Una vez que tenemos la base del letrero, procedemos a ubicar el mensaje. Conseguí un trozo de cartón de color negro y resalté 2 palabras pegando sobre el fondo negro y dejando un borde. Esto resalta un poco lo más importante del mensaje.

To make the planet earth, I made 2 of them and we colored one each. My little girl's was very colorful and we left it to paste on my desk. This part was a lot of fun, watching her participate in her school project.

Para hacer el planeta tierra, hice 2 y coloreamos unos cada una. El de mi pequeña fue muy colorido y lo dejamos para pegarlo en mi escritorio. Esta parte fue muy divertida, verla participar en su proyecto escolar.

The real fun was when we marked his handprint on the newsprint. I put tempera on his hand and he traced it on the paper. Then I glued it onto cardboard and cut out the edge.

La verdadera diversión fue cuando marcamos la huella de su mano en el papel periódico. Coloqué témpera en su mano y la plasmó sobre el papel. Luego la pegué sobre un cartón y recorté el borde.

Once I had all the message glued on the sign. I placed the balloon holder on the back and glued it with silicone in the center of the cardboard.

Un vez que tenía todo el mensaje pegado en el letrero. Ubiqué por la parte de atrás el sujetador de globos y lo pegué con silicona en el centro del cartón.

And that's how our poster turned out. We had a lot of fun working on this project and my daughter was able to wear it in the school parade.

This is the proof that you can make beautiful things with materials that are destined for the trash. I invite you to give a second chance to all that cardboard, paper and plastic that you think are no longer useful.

Y así fue como quedó nuestro cartel. Nos divertimos mucho trabajando en este proyecto y mi hija lo pudo llevar en el desfile escolar.

Esta es la muestra de que se pueden hacer cosas muy bonitas con materiales que están destinados a la basura. Los invito a darle una segunda oportunidad a todo ese cartón, papel y plástico que piensan que ya no sirven.
