I sat down on my bedside stool with my phone in my hand. I took another long look at the picture showing on my phone screen, and then at my reflection in my bedside mirror.
"Who would believe that these two people are one and the same?", I thought to myself. "How on earth did I end up becoming like this?"
I was brought back to the present moment by the beeping of my phone. A quick look showed that a dear friend had just invited me to join a public group on Facebook. On a closer look, I realized that the group was all about burning fat naturally.
What would they be talking about here that I have not tried before? That was my thought as I tried to get up from the bedside stool I had been sitting on, but I couldn't get up without gasping and clutching my chest.

"I need to do something about my situation fast", I said to myself. The heaviness I felt around my chest each time I wanted to get up from bending or sitting position was becoming an issue of concern.
Taking a walk up and down the stairs, a thought came to me. Acting on impulse, I went to Facebook to check out the weight loss group my friend had invited me to join. While at it, I saw they were advertising an upcoming Weight-loss Bootcamp. What blew me away was the number of video reviews done by several ladies who had participated in the group's previous bootcamps.
As someone who had tried taking different steps to lose weight without any tangible success, it wouldn't hurt to try one more method. I made my payment to the account details that was provided on the advert flyer, and also sent proof of payment to the admin's WhatsApp number. Not long after, I received my shopping list for the four weeks of the bootcamp.
"What is this? Do these guys even know what they are doing? I signed up for a fat burning bootcamp. How could they give me a shopping list filled with high fat ingredients? How do they expect me to consume all these high fats and burn fat at the same time?" I was ready to ask for a refund, so I placed a call across to the admin immediately.
Coach Ada listened patiently until I finished my rant, then she explained to me what the Ketogenic Diet was all about (and that was the focus of the Fat Burning Bootcamp I had paid to participate in). That was how I started my journey into the Ketogenic lifestyle.
The main focus of the keto diet is to increase your good fats intake (eg butter, cheese, olive oil, coconut oil, eggs, fatty cuts of meat, tallow, heavy cream, Avocados etc) while staying off heavy carbohydrates like rice, yam, white bread and wheat flour products. Low carb vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, aubergine etc are used as carb sources. Sugar, honey and dates are avoided plus sweet fruits like apples etc. Almond milk and coconut milk are used instead of cowmilk and goat milk, while Greek yoghurt is used instead of regular yoghurt. This is not an exhaustive information, but just to give you an idea.

The increased fat intake with low carbohydrates and medium protein intake helps the body to switch from using glucose in the body as energy source, and instead derives energy from ketones that are released as the body burns fat.
As I started my journey into ketosis, I not only started seeing fat melt away from my body, but also my overall health improved. Each time I look into the mirror, I am pleased with the person looking back at me. Till today I am still amazed that what worked for me was eating fat to burn fat.
What I have shared above is my own personal experience, to help you see that sometimes the cure you are looking for can be found in the disease.
