In the dark Gaan knew he was safe. Not even Klennu would speak, most likely through fear of alerting those in the compound to their presence. Not that he would. The implant only allowed for his voice to carry as far as Gaans mind.
"I heard something, it came from over here." Gaan could hear someone's voice pierce the silence and carry on the air.
Other voices morphed together to form an inaudible garble of noise that followed along and grew louder as the distance shrank.
From the shadows he watched as a few people staggered and moved, swaying as they came and went. Some stood staring and the breach. One grabbed at a piece of rubble on the ground, as if it may have hidden the one responsible.
"Walls don't fall unaided." Gaan could hear a Triskani voice.
The odd way their mouths moved, which left the words of basic distinctly bastardised. It could have been the target, but it was hard to tell as the speaker was out of eye shot.
"I want this place searched. If someone's here, I want them found." The Triskani commanded. "I'm going to review footage, and see if our cameras picked up what happened."
"Time is of the essence." Klennu said. "They're on high alert, but you may still be able to surprise them."
One person appeared, fumbling in the dark of the alley. A flash of light illuminated the area. Gaan moved around the corner before it activated and looked at the cone of light reach the back corner of the alley. The light continued to move, as the torch holder stepped closer to pear around the corner Gaan was hiding.
"These walls are old, I'd say I'd be able to push them down." A voice.
Close. Speech slurred. Intoxicated. Disinterested. Human. Three foot away. No more. Torch in one hand. Weapon in the other. Clumsy. Disinterested. Unprepared. Light on far side. Right hand. Weapon left.
"A stiff wind would knock these old stones down." Another voice replied. Further. Disinterested. Triskani. Youthful. Intoxicated.
The light grew. A figure appeared. Gaan grabbed his left arm with his own. Yanked him forward. Reached around. Covered mouth with his right. The Human screamed. Too late. Muffled behind steel and fabric gloves. Drawn weapon fell. The torch was thrown backwards. It landed close. They struggle but it's useless. One quick movement. Snap. Broken neck. The body falls limp. Gaan drags him out of the way and moves toward the breach.
One person stands at the breach. Weapon drawn. Footsteps reveal another out of sight. A running stream reveals another. Piss splashes on stone. Closer than the others. Gaan steps from the shadow and out of the alley his pistol drawn.
"That ones got a bounty of 1,500 FSTs!" Klennu said quickly. "You decide if its worth it."
The person turns to Gaan. Before he can shout a shot is fired. One to the hand. Weapon falls as they grab their wound. One more to the knee, he drops. Gaan turns. Face to face with a Human pissing against the wall. They scramble to do up their belt and fall back into the sand.
"That one has no bounty."
Gaan aims for its head. One shot. Still.
Standing with options for cover, a Triskani aims an unsteady pistol at Gaan. He responds in kind.
"5,500 FSTs." Klennu said.
"Drop your weapon." Gaan says, maintaining a steady sight on him.
The Triskani mumbles something incoherently. They drop their weapon. Gaan flicks a switch on his pistol and fires. The Triskani sizes up and writhes on the ground.
A shot is let off. Not his own. Another one. It also misses. Gaan turns to the Human on the ground. Leg, and hand injuries don't stop them from firing poorly and cursing each miss.
Gaan aims. Fire. The Human seizes up and vibrates from being stunned.
Wrangling each of them he ties them up. They're incapacitated. But, he didn't want to take a chance.
"Klennu, take the ship to my position. I'm making my way to the target."
