What is your favourite food ?
Sadya prepared by me for Onam festival with few items
Festive time with family
When it comes to food, there are too many good recipes at the tip of my tongue, because how good we are in eating, the same can be applied to Indian cooking, the aroma, the spices, the exotic cuisine .... and much more.
But then focusing on one particular type of cuisine in my state Kerala, South India, I like "Sadya" . In this food, you get to taste all kinds of veggies with pappads, banana, banana chips, sweet plantain chips, varieties of pickles and finally, to put an end with three varieties of sweet porridge.
This food is compulsorily prepared for two festive occasions, "Onam" and "Vishu". Even most Hindu marriages follow thia tradition. Though its popularly found in our state, now it is available in most restaurant nation wide as well as abroad, especially in Kerala restaurants.
Now what does Sadya include.
Let me tell you. With the main staple food rice comes --
- Curries - Sambar, Paripp (Dal), Rasam and butter milk
- Avial - a mixed veggie combo
- Thoran - any single veggie item mixed with grated coconut spluttered qith mustard and curry leaves.
- Pachadi - any single veggie mixed with grinded coconut and curd with parrly grinded mistard
- Kicchadi - any single veggie mixed with grindeď coconut and just curd (no mustard)
- Kaalan - prepared with yam or raw banana, coconut and yoghurt.
- Oalan - made with red cow peas and Ash guard and seasoned with little coconut milk and curry dishes.
- Puli Inji Sweet 'n' sour ginger
- Pickles
*Pappad - Three varieties of sweet porridge
Do you know how these are served?
The food is served in banana leaf. Rice two big spoons. And veggies just half a table spoon, because all veggies are stuffed in that one plantain leaf. Once you finish eating the rice, the sweet porridge is served in leaf one after the other.
So this is the end of having a good healthy meal. Give a try once and you will enjoy this healthy meal lifelong.
