As humans, we all need free time to allow us rest and recover from all the physical and mental demands of our work and daily responsibilities. Carving out free time out of our busy schedules helps to relieve stress, prevent burnout, ensure a balanced life, and maintain our overall health.
As a mom to toddlers, it can be really difficult for me to carve out time to rest because even when you are not working or doing the house chores, you are looking after the kids.
In order for me to rest, I have to intentionally plan every time. I don't have a particular thing I do to rest; what I do to rest depends on my mood.
Sometimes I listen to music or watch movies, mostly k-drama. This gives me the break I need to unwind. Watching movies helps me rest my brain and recharge.
At other times, I play games with my kids; this not only takes off the pressure of my tasking day, it is also an avenue for me to bond with them. I do not want to be the mother that shouts out instructions and flogs at the slightest opportunity. I want to be a safe haven for my children. I want to be the kind of mom they can confide in and trust with any and every tiny little secret. I believe bonding with them through games and other opportunities would create an enabling environment for trust and confidence.
Another activity I carry out with my time is writing. I have a blog where I post daily content, and this can be demanding as I have to ensure my site is fresh and exciting, not boring with stale posts. When I pick up my notepad to write, I always write with my readers in mind. I strive to pen down my thoughts in a way that is easy to understand and apply to every day living. This comes with a lot of brainstorming and deep thinking.
I also use my free time to read and surf the Internet in search of educational materials sometimes, while sometimes I watch comedy.
