Greetings friends, I recently told you that I had bought several chicks in a pet store. These chicks are normally kept in farms to fatten them and then benefit them, but I bought them to try to mix this breed of large hens, with Creole or wild hens and see what kind of hens can be obtained from this mixture. It is something that will take time, because I have to wait for them to grow and let the Creole rooster breed with these hens that come out, but it is interesting to see what chicks will come out.

However, I had bought only two, so I was visiting the pet store several times to buy up to cinto, for a total of seven chicks.

Saludos amigos, hace poco les comenté que había comprado varios pollitos en una tienda de mascotas. In the last visit I bought the last two of these seven, this breed of hens are kept for the purpose of producing eggs, they are red hens so their eggs come out with the characteristic brown color that you are used to see in supermarkets. She told me that it was a very nice breed of roosters that people have when their pens or cages are not so big. She also told me that they are sometimes used for cockfighting. I hope they buy him for a good purpose and not for fighting, because he is a very beautiful rooster, as he is tiny, little bigger than a pigeon.

They are smaller chicks than the others, which are more weeks old than these, so they look considerably smaller than the others, which have a voracious appetite and grow at a surprisingly fast rate.

But they are still small all the chicks I have, so I continue to give them a feed that is known as starter, because it has a lot of vitamins and the particle size is small, to prevent the chicks from choking on large pellets.

In the background you can also see Bucky, my other cat, who often goes into the coop to relieve himself. Bucky doesn't worry me, because he's a kitten who grew up among the chickens and doesn't do anything to them.... Curious, isn't it?

As I told you, it has been very hot during these months, so it is very common to see chickens bathing on land.

Why do they do this? You see, the soil beneath the surface is cooler than the hot crust. This is why chickens dig and bury themselves in these holes to take dirt baths, to cool down and clean off any lice they may have.

I thought the chicks wouldn't know how to do this, since they didn't have a hen to teach them how to do it, but I see that surprisingly instinct taught them how to do it and I caught them at the moment when they were taking a nice wet bath.

Yo pensé que los pollitos no sabrían hacer esto, pues no tenían una gallina que les enseñara a hacerlo, pero veo que sorprendentemente el instinto les enseñó a hacerlos y los capturé en el momento en el que estaban dándose un rico baño de tierra húmeda.

And yes, the instinct is very good, but there are also other things that they do NOT know how to do, like sleeping in high places, because I have other chicks that did have a hen that taught them to sleep in high places, but these other white chicks do not know how to sleep there, they look for any corner and sleep all there, huddled with each other to keep warm.

Below you can see some pictures that prove this. Some chicks are sleeping in a high place, because their mother hen taught them to do this; the others are not, they are just huddled in a corner of the floor.

Y sí, el instinto es muy bueno, pero también hay otras cosas que NO saben hacer, como dormir en lugares altos, pues tengo otros pollitos que si tuvieron una gallina que les enseñara a dormir en lugares altos, pero estos otros pollitos blancos no saben dormir allí, sino que buscan cualquier esquina y duermen todos allí, acurrucados unos con los otros para conservar el calor.

A continuación pueden ver unas fotos que evidencia esto. Unos pollitos están durmiendo en un lugar alto, pues su mamá gallina les enseñó a hacer esto; los otros no, solo están en una esquina del suelo acurrucados.

As you can see, they are healthy and curious chicks, each one with different characteristics but all equally tender and charming. I love these little creatures and I hope they grow up healthy and strong.
