Unusual Intrusions: When Animals Take Residence Inside the Human Body

What are the worst things you think can be found in a person body, non living things you might want to mention seeing that you might have read or seen in news cases of people swallowing inanimate things which then stay in their bodies. Just like people can have inanimate objects in their bodies, so can animate objects be found in the human body. So join me and let's share rare cases humans have another animal inside their body.

In Australia, researchers at The Australian National University (ANU) and the Canberra Hospital detected a live eight-centimetre Ophidascaris robertsi roundworm from a carpet python in the brain of a 64- year-old woman. The woman had been suffering from different symptoms for months which included abdominal pain and diarrhea, fever, cough and shortness of breath. Soon as the worm moved to the brain, she began to experience subtle changes in memory including memory loss, and inability to process thoughts properly. With the help of a MRI scan a lesion was found within the right frontal lobe of the brain. Performing Biopsy showed that it was a roundworm.

Still talking about worms, in 2021 a 67-year-old Thai man in Nong Khahad had a 708-inch or 59-foot tapeworm removed from his intestine. This was after he had suffered stomach pain for a very long time. He visited the hospital after seeing tapeworm eggs in his stool

You think you have read it all? Well, a 63 year old woman was reported to be pregnant with squid in her mouth, The organs of the squid wasn't removed before prepared. With this, she was eating a quid with its spermatophore sac and when she ate the sac, the content poured into her mouth as a result of rupturing the sac. Although, he did not swallow the portion, but instead spat it out immediately, she still suffered oral lesions in her mouth. Upon proper screening, it was observed that the spermatophores were found attached to the muscle of tongue, gum, and lips, and to remove this, a simple procedure was performed to remove the spermatophores.

Another is the case of a 26-year-old woman who had botfly living in her scalp. They began as larvae and after 2 years, she began to feel sharp pain in her scalp. The larva was removed through a procedure which was conducted under local anaesthesia, involving an incision and extraction of the live larva.
