Christmas shopping, we will do hallacas!

Hello, dear friend of Hive Blog!❤️

I want to tell you a little about my Christmas shopping from yesterday. Today is December 24, and in my country it is usually celebrated with food, so we had to do some shopping to get to work with mom to make the delicious characteristic dishes of my country, Venezuela. We will make hallacas, ham bread, salad and a cake. Mom loves to make a cake every 24 days, plus it is very satisfying to finish cooking and eat a piece.

So I will take you shopping with me in the city of Barcelona, in the state of Anzoátegui, in the beautiful country of Venezuela.

My day started at the butcher shop.

We buy the main ingredient which is the meat for hallacas, which is beef. I also saw some pieces of chicken on a tray that I really liked. So later we also decided to buy some chicken.

I don't usually take photos while shopping, but I wanted to make this shopping blog. We went from one place to another to buy the ingredients. Here in the photo, you can see the shelves of an Asian business that in my country we call "the Chinese." I know, they're probably people from anywhere in Asia. However, it is a custom here.

We took advantage of buying some provisions, after the 24th all businesses close for the holiday.

For Christmas dinner here we buy corn flour, wheat flour and oil. Among other things, for home consumption.

We stopped by the delicatessen to buy ham for the bread.

-Zul: Can I have 1/2 kilo of ham, please?
-Dispatcher: What ham?
-Zul: Ham, normal ham.
-Dispatcher: But, what ham? There is back ham, ham... You have to know what ham you order!
-Zul: A 1/2 kilo of normal ham that you already paid for.

This is a fragment of the conversation with one of the dispatchers. I don't usually buy ham, I don't like it very much, I'm more into buying cheese (and I'm really good at choosing the best cheeses), but no ham.

Please ignore the status of the invoice, it has been the only survivor. I have lost all the others. In it you can see that my order was "standard cooked ham", I bought half a kilo for 125.66 Bs equivalent to $3.5

The ham I ordered is cooked ham. Which was the one I was referring to and that the girl at the checkout invoice, I didn't know, I only asked for ham without realizing the varieties there were. From now on, I will study more about hams, because there is no such thing as a normal ham.

Anecdotes that teach you, and make you laugh in the process.

-Mom: Zul, go and choose the potatoes, while I look for the rest.

Mom knows who to delegate the great responsibility that she deserves to choose potatoes. I am an expert, the family expert. If my friends need help choosing potatoes for dinner, I'm there too.

Let's say I'm a superhero, who has developed a great skill in choosing good potatoes. They have tested me, I have passed them. Which means that I am a potato hunter, and a cheese taster specialized in the subject. Do you need potatoes? Call me, and I will find the best ones for you.

The advertising time is over, but yes, I like to take my time choosing good potatoes. Some are not good, others are full of excess soil so it is difficult to differentiate the potatoes that are excellent from those that are not. It takes a little while, but I try to do a good job.

Here you will see some beautiful pumpkins, I love seeing them piled up, it reminds me of my field, I managed to collect so many that I didn't know what to do with them.

I hope this year to choose a good place to plant, I miss harvesting pumpkins, it is beautiful.

This photo marks the second exit. We returned home, and went out again, we still had some shopping to do that couldn't be missed.

So here in this store we buy vegetables, also in a similar and nearby one we find delicious sweet tangerines.

There were still some ingredients missing, these were cumin, paprika, olives, raisins, capers, eggs and wicks.

We got them all, a little expensive, but, we found them. I went into a store to buy 3 wicks for $1, I think they charged me the dollar at 40 Bs, and it is 35 Bs. I realized it when I left the store. The important thing is that I already have enough wicks to cook together with mom.

On the way home I saw this butcher shop, I loved its Christmas decoration, so I stopped to photograph it.

Some of my purchases are here. In the photo, hallaca leaves, olives, raisins, capers and oil.

I am glad to be able to share this blog with you, last night I started writing it before the electricity went out (a common problem in my country). I thought I had lost it, but my PC recovered it.

Now, I'll get ready to cook with mom. Wish me luck so that all the dishes are delicious like every year.

And in advance I wish you a Merry Christmas. May all your goals be fulfilled.

Zul. ❤️
