When I was presenting @liotes at #BuzzParty2024 in Hamburg, the biggest part of my "presentation" was about HIVE in general... The title was Community Without the Community, but there was a lot of talk about curation, retention, building our accounts, decentralization... (stay tuned for the official recording that should come out soon) What made me happy the most was the questions from the audience, which showed caring from experienced Hivians about the platform and some problems that we have...
One of the biggest problems is retention... I know that most people think that the biggest problem is onboarding, but the truth is that there are a lot of accounts created on HIVE, and there is a huge percentage of inactive accounts... Even when we realize that problem, we tend to blame it on others... Everything is perfect with the platform... We are doing everything right... They have no idea what they are doing... Those are probably the most popular "excuses"...

I don't know about you, but I was taught that it's not a problem to make mistakes, it's a problem if you deny them and ignore them... And to be honest with you, we have a huge problem with that on HIVE... Those who have a voice, unfortunately, don't like to accept their mistakes and don't like to be wrong (who does?)... They like to talk, talk and talk, urging for attention, without the broader vision... Solving their personal problems, but without thinking of the big picture... And usually, something like this happens...
Si vas a decir lo que quieres, también vas a oír
lo que no quieres.
Antología de la poesía lírica griega
This is a quote from a book that my son showed me yesterday... I took the book, opened a random page, and saw this quote... What a great fit! Translated to English, it would be something like If you want to say what you want, you will also hear something that you don't want.
Isn't that true? We like to brag, we like to show people how to do things, we know everything the best... But, when someone else shows us a different way, a different path, even if it is better, we will try to ignore it, or just silence it! That's something that happened many times, to almost everyone, and many times in our history...
Anyway, the main topic of this post is connected with all that, but I would like to be more "practical"... Back to that presentation in Hamburg... The discussion in the QUESTIONS part of the presentation went into the direction of building personal accounts on HIVE... How to do it "right" and how to keep users on the platform... As you probably know, I'm a big supporter of HIVE POWER, as in a nutshell, it is the most important "tool" that Hivians have on their blogging journey!
To be more specific, the topic went into the direction of CURATION... We were talking about big curation projects on HIVE, not only from the view of the GOOD things that they bring to people but also about the NEGATIVE sides that can arise... I saw a great post by @achim03 about decentralization on HIVE, where he discussed some important points... Curation is great, but the curation with your PERSONAL HIVE POWER is the BEST!!! There is no discussion about that and I think that everyone is aware of that, but...
You Want More POWER?
Now we are getting to the point of this rant post... Everyone would like to have more power... Not just on HIVE, but in politics, in life, etc. But, there is that corny saying that kicks us in the butt every time we want more... More power means more responsibility!
Do you want more power on HIVE? Then stop delegating your HivePower to others and make good use of it!! Curate content manually with your HivePower and you will do a HUGE favor not just to the platform, not just to a better distribution of tokens, not just for a better decentralization, but also to YOURSELF and your IMAGE on HIVE! You will be more respected, and more appreciated, as you did the same... You respected and appreciated others by caring for them, by upvoting them...
It's not the problem of big curation accounts that have millions of HivePower... They didn't FORCE YOU to delegate your hard-earned HivePower to them... You did it yourself... You clicked on the DELEGATE button and confirmed the transaction... Why you did do that? Let me guess...
You were lazy to manually curate content because you "have no time" for that, and because you don't want to take that additional responsibility... Someone else knows better and they will do better than me... Are you sure about that? Do they know YOUR friends on HIVE? Will they support people that you like to read and support?
Stop whining about how somebody else's fault is that you are not upvoted better, that nobody likes you, that you are the victim, and how big whales are there just to screw you up! Manually curate with your HivePower, tell others to do the same, and you could expect different results... EMPOWER yourself and your friends by supporting them! Do not feed the beast and complain when you are served on the plate as lunch...
Thank you for your time,
~ph~
A bonus song for those who got to the end of the post... You can listen to it while you are commenting down below your point of view... 🙂
