The trend is certainly on its deathbed these days, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad. The reason it's dying isn't because it's bad, but instead, because it's totally over-saturated.
Drama Stories
Over the past few months, I've become addicted to drama stories about people talking about all sorts of stuff, but the ones where someone's life has/ is falling apart are the most entertaining ones.
I have no idea why that type of content is so addictive, maybe it just makes the viewer feel better about their own life, or maybe people like to try and learn from others' mistakes/ misfortune.
But, these videos on TikTok, Instagram and YT Shorts where there is some gameplay footage and someone tells their tale of woe, are so engaging. It's almost like the equivalent of reality TV for the internet.
Some of the stories are really good, and they keep you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out what's going to happen next. But, some are so clearly AI.
Here's the thing though, even though I know about 80% - 90% are AI-generated, I still find the odd ones that are done so well that you wouldn't be able to tell if it is or not.
Finding The AI
I have noticed a couple of common things among stories which give the AI away nearly every time.
If someone is telling the story but they "quote" a few choice words, my radar goes off. Also, if they quote an entire conversation verbatim, then the chances are it's either AI or somebody is doing a creative writing exercise.
Another one is the words "Heartless," and "Cruel,"
Like this,
So, AITA in the situation guys? A bunch of my friends and family are saying I'm Heartless, or Cruel.
Double points if they use both.
A Human who has just stood up for themselves in some sort of dramatic situation is not going to give a damn if their friend calls them cruel, or heartless. Also, in general, who even uses those words in an argument?
The 50-50 split.
So, my friends and family are divided evenly and I can't decide if I'm the asshole or not. My dad, sister, and dog say that I'm bad for pointing out these common traits of AI writing. But, my mum, brother and cat are on my side and I'm doing a good thing. I'm confused, what do you think?
Usually, these stories centre around situations where nobody is going to think the person writing it is the asshole.
Also, if there is some sort of question. Have you ever experienced something like this?
But, the newest one I discovered is microwave dinners.
It's literally like AI has gotten it into its head that the best way to visualize someone as a pathetic loser is by making them eat microwave dinners.
There have been a few stories I've listened to where the person essentially screws their life up and at the end they're saying stuff like, "Here I am, alone, in a tiny house, eating a microwave dinner while they're out there living their best life."
That's basically a direct quote.
I still listen to some of it, especially if it isn't totally obvious, but often I'll pick up on these common traits and instantly know the story is bullshit.
