Friends, you see, Oliver had been planning something special for his family for weeks. His family is made up of his wife Laura and his two children, Sam and Emma. The truth is that they all needed a break. Especially because the last few months had been very hard, full of endless work and obligations. Laura works in a fish shop 6 days a week and barely has time, the children go to school and Oliver works as a captain of a fishing boat, and he was used to long days at sea, but he felt increasingly distant from his family. That is why, taking advantage of the fact that everyone's vacation had coincided, he invited them to something special. He decided that the best thing would be to invite them to share an experience that would unite the family that had been so distant lately.
He proposed a week at sea, fishing together to disconnect from the noise of modern life and all that work. At first, the idea sounded crazy to everyone because there were many interesting things that could be done, but with some insistence, he managed to convince them. What they all agreed on was that this would help them reconnect with others.
Oliver took advantage of the fact that the boat he worked on was not being used because all the staff were on vacation and rented it to his company. He was an experienced captain so he didn't need anyone else to come, just him and his family. The next day the boat set sail, they had enough provisions for several days and everyone was excited because it had been a long time since they had gone out together. The children explored every corner of the ship while Laura watched them and at the same time settled into the cabins with books and food, wearing a smile that Oliver hadn't seen in a long time. During the first few days, the experience was very good. Oliver taught them how to handle fishing nets and identify different types of fish. At night, they shared stories under the stars, feeling closer than ever. The weather was perfect for what they were doing.
But unfortunately, due to life's circumstances, everything changed on the fourth night. You see, some clouds appeared, and the sea that had been calm, began to get very rough. Oliver tried to remain optimistic as he secured everything on deck, but soon the storm broke loose with a ferocity he had not anticipated. The waves pounded the boat as if they wanted to devour it, and the engine, after hours of struggle, finally gave in, melting down. Now without direction and at the mercy of the currents, the family found themselves trapped on the boat unable to return home. They spent the entire night at the mercy of the sea. Everyone went to the safest part of the ship in the cabins as they could not get out due to the raging storm.´
As the night went by, the storm dissipated, but not before destroying an important part of the ship's instruments, such as the communication antennas and the propellers of the already melted engine. When dawn broke, Laura spent the morning trying to calm the children, who were very scared. Meanwhile, Oliver was checking the damage. He realized that he could not steer the ship because the engine was beyond repair and the communication antennas were destroyed. So he found himself in a tight spot. He knew that he could do nothing to get his family out of this situation except wait for a rescue. But he also knew that this rescue would not be easy or fast, because most of the fishing boats were stopped for the holidays. When he gave the bad news to the family, they all felt very depressed.
The following days were a test, above all, of endurance. Because provisions were beginning to run low and morale was at rock bottom. And Oliver felt responsible for the situation. He spent hours trying to repair the engine, but there was nothing to be done. When they barely had enough food left for another day of the journey, the unthinkable happened. In the distance they saw solid land, it was a large island. The wind currents moved the boat to it. Oliver was very happy and woke up the whole family to see. They quickly lowered the emergency rowboat and began to row towards the island.
When they arrived, they saw that the island was a place like no other. Its vegetation was dense and with strange trees. When they got off the boat, they began to explore to look for provisions and build a shelter. But while they were doing that, they stumbled upon enormous footprints. They could not imagine what a large animal it could be. That same night, while they were setting up a rudimentary camp, they heard a roar. Something was lurking, but the fire from the campfire drove it away.
The next day, they were able to meet the creature. It was something impressive. It was a small, curious herbivore that approached the place where they were collecting fruit. They could not believe it, because obviously those animals were believed to be extinct, so they could do nothing but admire the animal. That same day, they saw that there were many species of dinosaurs. It was like a lost world where they had managed to survive in the modern world. From afar, they saw that there were also carnivores, so they knew that they could not go too far from the camp at night or explore alone. They had to work together.
As the days went by, they also realized that the dinosaurs were not the only inhabitants of the island. A group of natives, with a culture completely different from anything they knew, found them while exploring. At first, they thought they were cannibals who were going to devour them, but then they realized that despite being people who did not know the modern world, they had a sense of honor and a hierarchy, as well as being very friendly. They had never seen a human being from outside.
It did not take long for Oliver's family and the tribe to become friends. The most difficult thing for them was communication because they did not understand very well what the natives said. But little by little, as the days went by, they saw that their language was not so difficult, so they learned the basics to communicate. The natives offered them food and a house as a refuge. They also taught them how to survive on the island, for example, they told them which fruits were safe to eat or how to avoid the most dangerous predators and even how to use natural resources to build tools and shelters.
Oliver, for his part, shared modern knowledge that the natives did not know, such as more efficient fishing techniques, ways to use fire to cook, and how to learn English. Over the next few months on the island, both the tribe and Oliver's family became very close friends, and they mastered much of each other's language. So they could communicate better with each other. Life was calm to a certain extent and they could spend all day doing interesting things. But of course, despite the relative calm, life on the island was not without danger. One day, a centaur attacked the camp while Oliver and the natives were away. Laura had to use what she had learned to drive the animal away, but she was still injured in the arm, although not seriously. That incident taught the family not to stray too far from camp at any time and not to be alone.
Over time, the family began to feel part of the island. The children quickly adapted, playing with the small herbivorous dinosaurs and learning the customs of the natives. And Laura, who at first had struggled with the idea of being so far from civilization, discovered a peace she had never felt at home. And Oliver, for his part, became a leader within the community, because his experience as a captain and as a man of the modern world was greatly appreciated by the natives. They lived like this for about 5 long years. The truth is that none of them had any notion of how much time had passed because despite all the bad things that had happened to them, they felt very good there together and with their new friends.
But somewhat unexpectedly, one day a rescue ship passed by, precisely looking for them. Their relatives had spent the last few years trying to find them, and they had finally found them. The ship found them because a few days ago one of the ship's antennas had been activated and sent out the distress signal. And it was thanks to those that they found them. They don't know how happy everyone was when they saw their relatives and the rescuers. The relatives told him "Pick up everything, we're leaving." But they know, strange as it may seem, Oliver and his family didn't want to leave the place. Because returning to the modern world meant returning to the routine, the noise, and the distance they had left behind. So they had to think about what to do.
After a while they decided that the best thing would be to keep the best of both worlds. That's why they decided that they would live 6 months on the island and then 6 months back home. Because they didn't want to say goodbye to that beautiful place forever. His family understood and told them that it was fine with them if it made them happy. So this is the new life of Oliver's family, 6 months in each place. After that they said goodbye to their friends from the tribe and told them that they would soon return to return to them who were their family too. They promised them that they would return with many gifts and they wouldn't tell the secret of the existence of that place to anyone. In the end they set sail back, looking forward to the day when they could return and be together again.
