Friends as usual we start first with the music news. As I told you in the introduction today I want to talk about a classic song from the 90's, which is by the way one of my favorite times to choose music to listen to. I am referring to the song Lollipop (Candyman) by the band Aqua, many of you may have already heard it because it is well known. Well the thing is that the song is about to be 27 years since its release in a few weeks so I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and tell you a little bit about it. You can see this news as a preview haha,

First of all there is a coincidence with yesterday's post, for those of you who haven't seen it I'm going to give you a reminder. As I was saying I usually look for the classical music I listen to through videos on youtube, preferably I use compilations. So the coincidence with yesterday's post is that I also found this song thanks to one of these videos. I am really surprised every time I hear a classical song that is good and that was released so many years ago and I still haven't heard it.

It's for that reason that I never judge anyone for not listening to a song, sometimes I jokingly say that we are living under a rock, but it's literally impossible to keep up with everything that has been released before and what is being released now. I think it would take more than a lifetime for that right haha😅.

Back to today's song, it was released on November 25, 1997, as you can see there are still a few weeks to go until the exact 27th anniversary, but we are already close. The song, in case you don't know it, is part of the album Aquarium, a curious name because it rhymes in a certain way with the name of the band. I think it was very accurate. On this same album there are also other songs by the band that are even more well known than today's song, like “Barbie Girl”.

In my opinion Lollipop (Candyman) is the best song on that album, some of you may not think so, but as they say “there are different colors for different tastes” haha😅, I liked it the most, there's not much more to say. Or well yes, it's different from the others. I like its sweet touch and even a bit innocent, I think I couldn't have said it better considering that the title of the song talks about candy haha. But for some people it can be a bit disconcerting at first. Many interpret the lyrics simply as a song dedicated to the sweetness of candy, but it has a mischievous tone, haha you know what I mean, in simple words it has a bit of double meaning. But it never crosses over into the vulgar, something that is much appreciated. I personally don't like vulgar and bad sounding music. I think this song is a great example of that, of how you can use double entendre without spoiling the experience.

Some of my friends have told me that the song sounds to them like it is intended for a children's audience, but I don't think so. This is where we get into speculative territory, and I admit that I may be reading too much into something that after all could simply be a song about candy. But if you stop to analyze the lyrics, there are a lot of metaphors that make you think that “candy” could be something else, something that represents temptation or lost innocence.

Personally, I find it curious how Aqua uses this language, which is a bit childish, I don't deny it at all, but it is easy to interpret. I think everyone is free to interpret it as they wish and the song lends itself very well to that. So friends, all that's left is for you to listen to it and tell me what you think. As always I will leave you the video so you can watch it. After that, as usual, I'll leave you with my card recommendation for today.
