This Morning's Photo and Fishing Adventure

It was another early start today. I was heading up to a nearby frozen over lake to meet up with some friends for a little ice fishing. On the way, the sky started looking promising for a nice sunrise, so I pulled over and waited to see what would happen. I was late to meet up for the fishing, but it was totally worth it! The sky exploded with some intense oranges. The color did not last long at all. I shot a few photos, then hopped back in my car and headed to the fishing...

It was a great day on the ice. My fishing guide friend Blake, of Pisces Outdoors put us on the right spot. Our group caught about 25 fish total, I personally caught about 5. They were all rainbow trout, except this brook trout below. Brook trout are incredibly rare at this lake, so it was a lot of fun to see!

Here was one of the decent sized rainbow trout that I caught.

One of my friends brought his two sons. They are incredibly good fishermen for their age. I think that they caught the most fish.

The boy's dad is a professional chef (Tahoe Dinner Bell). He brought and warmed up some pulled pork sandwiches. It was unexpected but oh so good!!! There was plenty of meat, I even got to take some home. Oh, and I took one trout home for my dinner tonight...

Awesome photo 😍 lots of layers. The clouds of course but then the mountains with good light, the lower fog/clouds, the lake. Excellent. Your trout fishing makes me jealous. Its free ice fishing day in Vermont. Once a year on the last Saturday in January, you can ice fish without a license. But my local lake is not frozen over 🙄

I was super happy to start the day off with that unexpected sunrise. A good omen..
Most of the lakes around here are not frozen over this year... But that one is at a very high elevation. I'm glad we have it as an option.

I miss fishing with my son, especially when he was that age (he's 23 now). It's so fun to watch them learn and get excited when they reel one in!

I know they say there is no bad weather only bad clothing, but I really wonder how you manage to stay out there for so long fishing and having a great time! You definitely have my respect :) Kids look super cute and excited!

Yes, multiple layers of clothing... Thick socks. Hot tea. And a bit of adrenaline.
Tons of fun fishing with my buddy's kids!
And yup! I was incredibly happy to start my day with that magical sunrise.

Ice fishing is usually pretty relaxing. But we were catching so many fish, it was non-stop action today! Tons of fun.
