Hi dear friends! Today I share all leftovers of my short photo-walk through the April blizzard. You may have seen one photo I posted last week, here are all the rest. I intentionally used the tag #winter, but it's actually spring! the 1st week of April - this was the landscape that surrounded me during my #wednesdaywalk. My post also matches with #WednesdayWalk challenge by @tattoodjay.
I processed all the photos into black-and-white, cause I consider they look much more attractive this way. Huh, there was not much colour anyway!
The downspout is expected to provide a trickle of water, but no! only some fluffy snow fell from it.
The snowfall dropped from the sky all of a sudden, but some pedestrians I met were well-equipped with umbrellas. Why they might need it, you may ask? Umbrellas may protect you from the rain, but when the rain is being swapped into the snow mode - the basic functionality remains the same. By the way, depending on the ambient temperature, snow can easily turn into sleet, and then into rain - which happens here very often. I remember how 3-4 years ago Moscow was severely damaged by “ice rain” - water falling from the sky turned into ice on the ground (and other surfaces) in a matter of seconds. This is of course an unforgettable and beautiful sight for the photographer - but for other people it was a complete disaster. Electrical wires could not withstand the weight of massive ice blocks and broke, leaving entire residential areas without electricity. But this time everything ended safely, the snow remained fluffy and did not turn into ice or water.
So, this lady gave me a chance to practice in the favorite genre of “photographing a photographer.” 😎 She also was tempted to stop and take photos of the blizzard, just used a different device than me - a smartphone, while I was borrowing 70-200mm telephoto lens. Would love to know which results she have got!
The streets are already full of cyclists and scooters. I was thinking myself about opening the cycling season too, since it had become quite warm; but because of the snow, I have to postpone my 1st 2024 bike ride.
Do you remember, I was going to the store? Thats why sufficient percent of my models were just customers going out of the shop, haha. I wanted not to have more extensive walk around with camera unholstered (it quickly became covered with melted snowflakes and small droplets of water... which is not the most healthy thing for a camera).
“Quick lunch” - a man eats his burger on the go, clutching a baguette and a glass of coffee. In the black and white version, of course, the food is less identifiable than in the color original, so here's the color version for you too.
It is unlikely that this man was ready to eat in such conditions.
Snow grains hit the cyclist's face forcefully, while hands are busy and it is impossible to cover with anything; cyclists can only bend over, contort and hide their frowning, distorted faces.
A big hood or a cap with a long visor is a good help in such cases. (That's why I am so in love with my old weared-out cap so much!)
The post was no way made to compare the color originals and monochrome processing; in this case, B-W looks to me far more appealing. Still, with this photo the color version I liked. Here is this photo. As always, I will appreciate your opinion - what will you say?
