Today is one of these days when you don't want to go out. After the spring-like weather yesterday with sun and 17-18°C, today we have this
It keeps snowing, but thanks god without the wind. I know how the weather changes drastically for a blink of an eye. Now the forecast is rather accurate and no surprisingly the expected turn from warm to cold happened as it was said. And yet, I hoped to get away, but not this time. Today I am not going out and I will stay home with hope to get some shots from inside of any birds that may come close to the window.
It makes me wonder where Simon the squirrel is hiding in such bad weather. Simon can well be Simone or Susan, I don't know if it is male or female.
Squirrels are rare thing in my neighbourhood. Our small park and the small woods nearby are packed with birds, but no squirrels. What we heard from the old gits, who spent all day long sitting on the benches, there were always squirrels, but we've never seen them until recent.
Do you know the squirrels use their tail like umbrella to protect them from the rain?
My photos are from a better days than today and it was almost impossible not to spot Simon either running or climbing the trees or jumping from branch to brunch.
That is why my camera (as always because of the birds) is on shutter mode to be able to catch and freeze the moment. Mostly not quite successfully.
Next image is not the best but I cropped it to show you the tongue (or that is what it seems to me) while Simon gobbles a berry.
Sometimes I found him motionless to realize that he was munching a nut.
He made his stash of walnuts, prepared for the winter when the food will be scarce. I watched him picking nuts and running to different places to hide them avoiding the crows who were after him to pinch the nuts. Crows are clever enough to dig the squirrel's hidding places and to nick the precious food. However, seeing him eating what he has stashed is a relief, knowing his hard work was not in vain.
Just think about how many times he has to do it, one walnut at the time. Let me find a photo from that time. Ah, there you are. If the previous photos were taken this month, the next is from October.
Every walnut was carefully picked and carried with his mouth. And this exercise was done so many times.
I have made also many more photos, some of the squirrels I found near my workplace. Always fun to watch these little buggers. Like the birds I love to watch them and to try to make decent photos to share. Now while searching for birds I am always looking for Simon and haven't seen him for over a week. I very much hope he is OK and will meet him again on my next walk.
And that's all for now.
Photos taken with Canon EOS 4000D.
Wishing you wonderful weekend!
