The location of THE GOTHIC CHURCH on the ESTATE OF KYLEMORE ABBEY you can find on the following screenshot of Google maps with the yellow star ⭐️:
See it is all the way to the right of the abbey and walled garden, in the forest.
Remember the photo across the lake? Where you only saw the tower of this church in the forest 🌳
Such a beautiful location… 😊
More information about this ESTATE you find in the following website:

Their own website you find here : Kylemore Abbey!
In the following webpage: Here!
…we find information about the NEO-GOTHIC CHURCH.
It states;
In 1874, Mitchell Henry and his family holidayed in Egypt – an exotic and popular destination in Victorian times. Sadly, tragedy struck on the River Nile. Margaret contracted dysentery and died sixteen days later. She was beautiful, 45 years old and a mother of nine.
Unable to bear the thought of having her lie in the cold ground of a foreign country. Mitchell immediately set about building a cathedral-in-miniature in memory of his wife Margaret. The beautiful gothic church is a testament of his love for Margaret. Both Mitchell and Margaret are interred together in the Mausoleum tucked away in the woodland close to the neo-Gothic Church.
This webpage also writes about the architecture;
Designed by architect James Franklin Fuller, work began on the neo-Gothic Church in 1877 and was completed in 1881. The architecture of this sandstone building is remarkable, it replaces the typical grotesque features of gothic structures such as gargoyles with delicate flower, bird, and angel features. This was one way in which Mitchell honoured his beloved wife with the building. Another way was by including beautiful marble pillars from each of the four marble regions of Ireland, a country Margaret was so enamoured with; green from Connemara, black from Kilkenny, red from Cork and white from Tyrone.
So beautiful to read how he honoured his wife 🥰
Let’s start our walk now:
As we are walking towards the church we have these views 😁
Just look at the textures on the mountains across the lake 😎 so beautiful!
Along the path we find this sign:
We reached the ruins of a boathouse on the grounds along the lake.
Let’s check it out 😉
We see ruins of the walls and where the boat 🚤 goes into.
Another angle 🤓
Very cool…
As we follow the path further, we see the church in front of us, still hidden by some trees 🌳
As we approach it further we stop and read this sign:
So happy the sky is clearing up and the blue is such a contrast with the mountains and church.
We see some beautiful features.
As we could read a little bit up about how this church looks romantic and is in honour to his wife… we see the angels 👼 and flowers 🌸 as decorations. Nothing dark like gargoyles…
We enter… and the first thing we do is look up ⬆️
Wow… love the ceiling 🤩
It gives me a very private feel… like a small intimate church.
Behind us we find many details and flowers everywhere.
Love the carved petals and leaves that form the flowers 🌹🌺🌸 very delicate #craftsmanship
Looking up again, we see this imposing window.
As you know… I love details and these lines are yummy 😋 hahaha.
The different marbles from all corners of Ireland 🇮🇪
Another look at the altar in the distance… before we exit the church.
Outside we decide to look closely at some more details and the #architecture of this Neo-Gothic church.
He sure knew what he wanted and how to honour his wife with something beautiful.
The tower reaches high for the #sky.
As we step further away from the church we can see the front and entrance.
It is beautiful…
We decide to walk further and see the church now from further away. The forest surrounds it.
Wandering through the forest I see this branch broken off the tree a while ago.
It looks small in the photo, but it was really large. Almost a tree on its own. 🌳
I turn around a few times as we walk on… and see the church peeking 🫣 through the trees 🌳🌲🌳🌲
Stunning… just hidden enough and still showing us its beauty 🥰
Do stay tuned for more from Kylemore Abbey Estate 😉 as the abbey/castle itself and the mausoleum I still have to show you 🤓
